I 12 år har Hitler regeret Tyskland. Da riget skrumper ind i foråret 1945, tager Føreren fast ophold i Berlin. "Jag ångrar ingenting". Uttalandet är Gustaf Ekströms och görs i en intervju med SVT år 1993. Han förnekar även förintelsen. Fem år tidigare har han varit med och grundat partiet Sverigedemokraterna. Men vad gjorde Ekström innan dess? Med hjälp av tjugo olika arkiv runt om i världen har författarna till "Utan ånger" kartlagt Gustaf Ekströms liv - ett liv som i stort ägnades åt nazismen. Efter flera års medlemskap i Sveriges fascistiska kamporganisation tog Ekström år 1941 steget till att bli frivillig i Waffen-SS.

On 27th January 1944, Stalin declares that Leningrad has been liberated. After a siege lasting two and a half years, German forces retreat with the Red Army in hot pursuit. Encouraged by the victory, Soviet general Govorov decides to liberate Estonia, but in the battle of Narva, the Germans upset his plans, and the front comes to a temporary halt. Hitler's forces are feeling the pressure on all sides, however.

With Europe overrun by Hitler’s thundering war machine, Churchill is the only head of state with the courage to stand up to the Führer. In Germany in February 1942, armaments minister Albert Speer has the job of making sure that there’s a steady supply of prisoners of war to man the plants and factories -at the same time as the SS are on a killing spree.

The battle is won, the enemy driven out, and everyone can breathe again. Many field generals thought this - but generals often make mistakes. Throughout World War II, specially trained soldiers made sure that the enemy never rested in peace. Command units struck anywhere and at any time: a German general was kidnapped in the middle of Crete, while commandos liberated Benito Mussolini from his prison on a mountain top. And British units blew up factories in a Norwegian town to deprive Germany of important raw materials.

The Germans and their Japanese allies have gone from victory to victory since the start of the war, but in the autumn of 1942, that begins to change. On the small Pacific island of Guadalcanal, US forces drive back the Japanese to capture a key airfield. Meanwhile, on the Eastern Front, Hitler’s blitzkrieg slams to a halt at Stalingrad, stopped by the Russian winter and a Red Army determined to defend every street. As the war enters its fourth year, the conflict becomes ever more brutal.

Luftwaffe pilots fear one weapon more than any other: British Spitfires. Powerful Rolls Royce engines and an ingenious design make the plane fast and manoeuvrable. In 1940, Spitfires and their fearless pilots resist Hitler’s attempts to bomb Britain to submission. The fighter’s success forces Germany’s leaders to develop even more powerful weapons. London is targeted by V-1 and V-2 bombs, forerunners of the Saturn V moon rocket. Meanwhile, on the Eastern Front the supergun Schwerer Gustav fires shells at targets 47 kilometres away.

On the morning of Sunday 7th December, 1941, 183 Japanese aircraft fly across the quiet American naval base of Pearl Harbor. After a few minutes, oil stocks and airfields are in flames, and several of the United States’ largest battleships are heading towards the bottom of the harbour. The aim of the Japanese surprise attack is to hobble the United States once and for all, giving the empire a free hand to continue its conquests in Asia. But the assault has the opposite effect.

In 1933 Adolf Hitler seizes power after seducing the German people with lavish promises of restoring order, prosperity and the Greater German Reich to its former glories. He then goes to on exploit other Western European powers’ fear of confrontation to rearm the country in direct defiance of the restrictive terms of the Treaty of Versailles. Before his neighbours can react, Hitler has transformed Germany’s armed forces into the most modern war machine of the day. And Hitler is not alone.

Dass braunes Gedankengut in Deutschland jemals wieder en vogue sein könnte und sich sogar eine rechte Partei dieses Gedankenguts bedient und Erfolg damit hat, hielt ich nach den entsetzlichen Erfahrungen der Nazidiktatur im Dritten Reich für ausgeschlossen. Ich hatte mich getäuscht und frage nun in diesem Hörbuch, woran es liegt, dass eine braune Partei, die "BP", wie sie sich ehrlicherweise nennen sollte, deutliche Akzeptanz erfährt.

Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, Anne ha dovuto affrontare la brutalità di Hitler, vivendo l'orrore di quello che è stato il campo di concentramento di Auschwitz. La sua breve vita, iniziata a Francoforte sul Meno, è stata infine stroncata dal nazismo nel campo di sterminio di Bergen-Belsen.

Di Hitler si dice che fosse "magnetico". Di Goring che fosse un valoroso pilota. Di Goebbels che fosse un demagogo straordinario. Di Heydrich che fosse un provetto schermidore, un eccellente pilota e un ottimo musicista. Nessuno è mai riuscito a trovare niente di speciale in Himmler, non un solo momento di carisma e umanità in tutta la sua esistenza. Lucas Pavetto: nato in Argentina, si trasferisce in giovane età. Manifesta sin dalla più tenera infanzia una spiccata attitudine per la musica e le arti figurative.

Col grado di SS-Obersturmbannführer era responsabile di una sezione del RSHA; esperto di questioni ebraiche, perseguendo la cosiddetta soluzione finale organizzò il traffico ferroviario per il trasporto degli ebrei ai vari campi di concentramento. Nella vita e nell'orribile modalità della sua morte, Joseph Goebbels fu il più devoto tra i gerarchi nazisti. Un uomo talmente innamorato di Hitler, delle sue idee e del suo mito, da sacrificare tutto per esso, da vivere costantemente della sua luce riflessa. E da spegnersi, ormai fantoccio senza fili, nel momento stesso in cui il suo burattinaio venne meno. Un viaggio alla scoperta del "Diavolo zoppo", il fragile ma instancabile megafono del nazismo. I tolv år har Hitler regerat Tyskland. När riket under våren 1945 krymper, tar Führern sin tillflykt till Berlin. I april förskansar han sig i en bunker djupt under huvudstaden, men även där kan de ryska bomberna höras dygnet runt. Till sist är även Hitler tvungen att inse att kampen är över. Führern avvisar alla förslag att fly och väljer att använda sig av både en pistol och en giftkapsel - enligt läkaren det säkraste sättet att ta livet av sig på.

Orbán, Erdoğan, Bolsonaro... Sind das Diktatoren? So leicht sagen kann man das gar nicht. Klar: Noch sind diese "Populisten" nicht der neue Stalin oder Mussolini. Aber ihre Methoden ähneln denen der Geschichte doch sehr deutlich. Die Gängelung der Medien zum Beispiel, das Schüren eines Feindbildes oder auch die Pflege des Ausnahmezustands... All diese Dinge werden von den Populisten von heute verwendet und kommen direkt aus dem Hörbuch, das ihnen die großen Diktatoren der Geschichte hinterlassen haben.
