Publisher's summary

“Welcome to the family,” Nina Winchester says as I shake her elegant, manicured hand. I smile politely, gazing around the marble hallway. Working here is my last chance to start fresh. I can pretend to be whoever I like. But I’ll soon learn that the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own....

Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.

I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband, Andrew, seems more broken every day. But as I look into Andrew’s handsome brown eyes, so full of pain, it’s hard not to imagine what it would be like to live Nina’s life. The walk-in closet, the fancy car, the perfect husband.

I only try on one of Nina’s pristine white dresses once. Just to see what it’s like. But she soon finds out...and by the time I realize my attic bedroom door only locks from the outside, it’s far too late.

But I reassure myself: The Winchesters don’t know who I really am.

They don’t know what I’m capable of....

One Big Cliche’

It seems these days that people who write the descriptions of books are far more talented at marketing than the authors are at ideas and language. This was not “an addictive psychological thriller” but rather a painfully predictable narrative of stereotyped characters and eye-rolling events. I absolutely saw everything coming and the one-dimensional characters were just plain boring. I keep wasting Audible credits on inaccurately reviewed titles and Audible makes you jump through hoops to get a promised refund when dissatisfied. This was truly time wasted.

You’ve heard this story before

Spoiler alert if you’ve read ‘The last Mrs Parrish’ this book is extremely similar. It’s almost as if it was intentionally copied there were so many things in common. That being said, ‘The last Mrs Parrish’ is my favorite book, so I still enjoyed hearing a different take on the clever story. It’s definitely worth the listen.

don't waste your money

primitive language that invokes 0 emotions, i felt like this was a freshman high school assignment to write a short suspense novel. none of the plot ideas feel complete;; she gets an idea good enough to "hook" the reader, and next it fizzles out with some bizarre resolution. save your money. don't understand why so many positive reviews.

Plot Convenientls and Contrivances Abound

Horrible characters doing horrible things and somehow getting away with it all. Abandon logic and rationality with this one.

Not great…

I like to listen to trashy suspense books while I work in the yard. This one wasn’t bad enough to make me stop listening, but it was pretty bad. The “plot twist” was so obvious that I saw it coming a mile away and I was hoping it was a red-herring but, no, it is that obvious. The narration wasn’t great either. She tried to do accents but could only keep it going half the time.

The Housemaid

5 ⭐️
Really good story. I literally could not put this one down. Ex-con gets a job as a Housemaid for a family with one child, a 9 year old girl. You don't know why she was in prison, but she has trouble getting and keeping a job. She is living in her car when she gets the job as the live-in house keeper. The family is extremely wealthy, but her room is a former closet and the door lock is on the outside. The wife is bitchy and unpredictable and the husband is gorgeous and understanding. The 9 year old is a spoiled brat. All is not well in this house.
I highly recommend this audio recording!

Read this NOW!

AMAZING BOOK! I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. I did not know what I was getting into when I started reading but from that jaw dropping first chapter, I knew I was in for a whirlwind. I love that I still didn’t know anything after part one ended… or part 2 for that matter. It kept surprising me. I couldn’t recommend the book more.
