About this listen

The apocalypse will be televised!

A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible.

In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground.

The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot. A dungeon so enormous, it circles the entire globe.

Only a few dare venture inside. But once you're in, you can't get out. And what's worse, each level has a time limit. You have but days to find a staircase to the next level down, or it's game over. In this game, it's not about your strength or your dexterity. It's about your followers, your views. Your clout. It's about building an audience and killing those goblins with style.

You can't just survive here. You gotta survive big.

You gotta fight with vigor, with excitement. You gotta make them stand up and cheer. And if you do have that "it" factor, you may just find yourself with a following. That's the only way to truly survive in this game - with the help of the loot boxes dropped upon you by the generous benefactors watching from across the galaxy.

They call it Dungeon Crawler World. But for Carl, it's anything but a game.

An interesting and unique litRPG Story

A story with a talking animal? No, not a mule named, Francis nor a Horse named Mister Ed but a feline named Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk. or with her disdain, just Donut for short. The overriding theme of the novel is that of a post-apocalyptic world where most of humanity were wiped clean and those that remained were forced to dungeon-dive to stay alive. The MC is Carl who is burdened with Donut who, for reason not clearly understood, has been given the ability to be a full-fledged player, with all the player capabilities as would be afforded humans. What follows is a mostly humorous but often poignant situations with horrendous monsters to defeat as the two attempt to reach the bottom of the dungeon before all humanity is destroyed.

Finished Book1, instantly bought next 2 books

This book is hilarious. Picked it up after seeing the insane cover of Book 6, and just said to myself "....ok I HAVE to know what the heck is going on here." So I tossed a credit at Book 1. I haven't laughed that hard at a book in a LONG time. Heck even the aftercredits ad for the narration team was hilarious. Seriously listen to the ENTIRE thing. Don't stop until you hear "Audible hopes you have enjoyed this program."

The book is like someone took The Running Man, Borderlands 2's DLC of Tiny Tina's D&D adventure (her first one), pro-wrestling, and social media, and tossed them all into a blender with about 10 grams of cocaine mixed in, and then hit blend. The entire premise is ridiculous, but also surprisingly heartfelt and thought provoking. While the author clearly wants to have fun with the overall premise, he always makes sure to remind Carl (and the reader) about the horrific thing that has happened to Earth and humanity, and the messed up morality/ethics of what is going on with this galactic society.

It's super fun, super funny, and super disturbing/heartfelt. An odd mixture given the setup, but it works. It freaking works SO well. I'm currently on book 4 and have had multiple times when listening at work, where my coworkers looked at me concerned, as I burst out laughing out loud.

Seriously, gives this series a try. If you like Apocalypse LitRPGs, and can appreciate a love letter/parody of them, similar to Galaxy Quest, then you will enjoy this series.

A funny LitRPG

This is generally a fun LitRPG novel that avoids quite a few tropes. The start of the book was a bit off-putting for me, as the scenario seemed beyond believable. Even for LitRPG. Yet, as background is filled in, the story begins seeming less realistic, and the entertainment of the story washed away my skeptical dislike. Quite enjoyed the narrator as well. This book is more in the tone of Dominion of Blades with more humor and very unlike Kaijou Battlefield Surgeon, which was horror based on disturbing/disgusting imagery. Looking forward to the Audible version of the next book, although I hope Sound Studios (?) goes light on the sound effects. I have heard some of their books where they have so much background going on (or they purposely distorted a voice) that it made it difficult to understand the narrator even with an equalizer set to enhance voice and diminish background.

What a wonderful audible I enjoyed it so much I listened to it twice.

Love the characters and the story line and who doesn’t need a sarcastic IA.
