Publisher's summary

Bloomsbury presents The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J. Maas, read by Elizabeth Evans.

The twist of a knife. The birth of a legend.

Step into the world of the #1 bestselling Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas with this collection of prequel novellas.

Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance.

If she hopes to escape Arobynn’s clutches, Celaena will have to put her faith in her wits and her blade...knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling—and deadly—world.

Included in this volume:

The Assassin and the Pirate Lord

The Assassin and the Healer

The Assassin and the Desert

The Assassin and the Underworld

The Assassin and the Empire

loved it!

I love this series! I actually read TOG first not knowing that this was the first book so it was nice to really know what happened!

A prequel to read AFTER a first go through series

I really enjoyed the back stories to many of the characters you meet or hear about throughout the rest of the Throne of Glass series, BUT this is not a prequel you should read before starting. It gives too many hints at the surprises to come - nothing is revealed, but knowing what surprises to look for ruins the plot twist further in the series, in my opinion.
Read all 7 of the other books, then (if you loved them) read this one before you re-read the series.

Also, I wish Maas would have added more positive experiences between the love interests - she builds it up through inner monologue, but the only experiences they have together seem tainted by everything else going on. Their love seems unrealistic without some proof of their actual desire beyond the physical connection of 2 young, attractive people. His emotions are more believable than hers... it let me down a little in that respect.

Captivating stpry!

From the first word to the last this exciting story with many twists and turns will keep you riveted! For anyone who enjoys a saga this series will sate your thirst! The performer is also delightful and her intonations keeps the different characters unique. I recommend this series highly!

Hmmmm

It’s interesting but difficult to relate to. I really don’t like how depressed I was about some of the events toward the end. I do feel the pull to read the next one to see what she does with her situation but I would have appreciated more hope.

amazing

whoever says that this book was just a whole lot of talk doesn't know what they're talking about. maybe this book wasn't the best, even though in my opinion it's one of them, the entire series is brillant and worth sticking with.

Cute but pg?

If your looking for something gritty, this may not be for you. It’s more of a good doer protagonist that bad things happen around. All and all it was pretty good though.

DO NOT READ THIS FIRST.

I made the mistake of reading this book before the others. Read it somewhere between books 3 and 5

Good performance. I love this voice actress. Writing is good but it MADE ME SO MAD. I almost couldn’t finish it and I really contemplated reading the other books. I am choosing to read the rest of the series I’ve been told over and over it gets better.

Let me be clear. This was not badly written this was a good book. I enjoyed it A LOT. However. It broke my heart and made me mad. The decision that was made in this book probably makes sense in future books but again DO NOT READ THIS FIRST.
