Lasciato incompiuto dallo scrittore e pubblicato postumo nel 1925, racconta la vicenda, surreale e angosciante, del procuratore di banca Josef K., che una mattina, senza conoscerne le ragioni, viene arrestato. Certo che si tratti di un errore, il giovane procuratore tenta di scoprire quale sia il capo d'imputazione sul quale si basa il processo che gli è intentato.
