Award-winning author and photojournalist Bella Bathurst talks to Audible about her latest title, Sound: Stories of Hearing Lost and Found. Having lived without hearing for over 12 years, in this interview Bella talks about the changes she had to make in order to adapt to her new life, the impact it had on her work and relationships and the eventual discovery that her condition could be treated and her hearing restored. Also addressing the ways in which society can work towards making deaf people feel more included in daily life, Bella provides unique insight into the psychology behind going deaf.

Launching to fame after the infamous 2013 'Blurred Lines' music video, Emily Ratajkowski has made a name for herself as a formidable fashion model, walking for Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu and Versace, to name but a few. She has regularly been listed as 'sexiest female', 'woman of the year' and 'hottest sex symbol', but Ratajkowski is far more than her appearance. She is a spokesperson for Planned Parenthood, and a political activist, endorsing Bernie Sanders. She has also starred in several feature films, such as Entourage, Welcome Home, and Gone Girl.

Blue is a Ghanaian Londoner, currently residing in Essex, with a past working in therapy. Her first publication, Psychotherapy, is a collection of poetry exploring the conscious, subconscious and unconscious processes of an ex-therapist trying to leave that world behind. Bad Love, Blue’s novel debut, focuses on Ekuah’s experiences of love, success and the difficult navigation of choices between the two. We chatted to Maame Blue about writing Bad Love, her inclusion in the #TwentyIn2020 initiative and finding her voice as a writer.

Joining us for a chat is the people's poet laureate, the punk performance poet, John Cooper Clarke, who is releasing his memoir I Wanna Be Yours. Clarke, born in Salford, is well known for his classic look of drainpipe jeans, wild black hair and sunglasses, whatever the weather, something which hasn't changed since the 1970s. Being inspired and encouraged by an English teacher at school, Clarke decided that he would make a living from poetry. He performed with many hugely successful bands, such as The Sex Pistols, Joy Division and New Order.

Growing up in the notorious cult, Children of God, has clearly not held her back. In fact, after leaving the cult, Cameron travelled across America to investigate other cults, ultimately leading to her memoir, Cult Following, which delves into her childhood in the Children of God and details Cameron’s road trips as she attempts to confront the trauma she faced as a child.

After nearly dying of septic shock after an emergency caesarean section, Candice Brathwaite started speaking about changes needed in the healthcare system when it comes to the treatment of black women, who are five times more likely to die during childbirth than white women. This experience, amongst other things, led to her first book, I Am Not Your Baby Mother, which went on to be a Sunday Times best seller. Brathwaite is also a regular on Lorraine on ITV, known for her on-point beauty and fashion advice, and is a Contributing Editor to Grazia.

Theroux began his career in America working on Michael Moore's TV Nation, and from this sprang his Weird Weekends (1998-2000) where Theroux spent time on porn sets, with swingers, body builders and white supremacists, to name but a few. Then came the hugely popular series When Louis Met..., in which Theroux spent time with the likes of Max Clifford, Chris Eubank and Jimmy Savile.

Joining us at Audible Studios is Irish physicist, cancer researcher and science writer David Grimes, who has penned his first book, The Irrational Ape, which aims to illustrate the power of critical thinking, and how it can literally save the world. He speaks to us about how as humans we look to balance the rational and the emotional, why we need to be skeptical about everything, and why some issues should not be debated.

Rory Stewart has had a far-reaching career over a multitude of different countries and positions. Having been educated at Eton and then Oxford University, Stewart went on to join the Foreign Office where he worked primarily in military intervention and international development, serving in Jakarta and Southern Iraq. Following these postings, Stewart walked alone across Afghanistan, relying on its people to house him on his way. He consequently wrote a book about this journey, and has gone on to become a bestselling author.

Magid, born in Somalia, came to Britain as a refugee in 1994. He grew up in Sheffield and completed a travelling gap year before studying at the University of Hull, where his foray into politics began, being elected as Students Union president. Entering the world of work, Magid was elected as a Green Party councillor on Sheffield City Council in 2016, and from 2018-2019 he served as lord mayor.

We'll be asking Kate Muir about Everything You Need to Know About the Pill (But Were too Afraid to Ask), debunking myths, discovering why women are often given the wrong advice, and the prospects of a male pill. Muir worked for seven years as chief film critic for The Times before turning more towards investigative journalism. She has written three novels but her more recent works have looked at the hormonal issues that women face, often needlessly. She has produced documentaries on the menopause, as well as becoming an expert public speaker.

Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about his latest novel, The Lost Witch, is acclaimed British children’s fiction author Melvin Burgess. Most recognized for his award-winning young adult novel Junk (1996), which won the Carnegie Medal and Guardian Children’s Fiction Prize, Melvin Burgess is back with a new fantasy thriller, The Lost Witch. Melvin Burgess talks to us about his first young adult novel in years, what he’s reading at the moment and the success of Junk.

In 2008, Cain began playing football for Coventry City but in 2012 he had to give up football after an injury put an end to his career. Cain then pursued reality TV, and appeared in shows such as Ex on the Beach, The Challenge and, more recently, SAS: Who Dares Wins. In 2020, life changed for Cain. His 8-week-old daughter, Azaylia, was diagnosed with cancer and passed away aged 8 months. Cain has done his utmost to raise awareness of childhood cancers and raise money, putting himself through grueling physical challenges.

Joining us at the Audible Studios are Greg James and Chris Smith, authors of the Kid Normal books and famous as BBC Radio 1 presenters. They have taken their collaboration on air to the world of writing and audiobook narration to bring us the joys of protagonist Murph Cooper, aka Kid Normal, and the Super Zeroes. Joining us in the Audible Studios to talk about his narration of Tony Lee’s audio drama Dodge and Twist is British actor Stephen Mangan.
