The majority of patients with both hypothyroidism (under-active thyroid) and hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) are experiencing autoimmune diseases that cause these conditions. When autoimmune thyroid disease results in hypothyroidism, the term for the disease is "Hashimoto's thyroiditis". Bible study and especially deeper theology is far more vast than most people realize. People who teach from the Holy Scriptures can be very sincere but also sincerely wrong. How much does thyroid disease affect the quality of life of those who suffer them? Is this really an important or worthwhile aspect to consider and address? In my belief as a Thyroid Patient Advocate being treated for autoimmune hypothyroidism and having corresponded with 1,000s of other patients with both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid conditions since 2003, I absolutely believe this to be an important aspect.

Beginning in my teen years, I experienced intermittent panic attacks. Previous to this, I suffered prolonged episodes of free-floating anxiety (generalized worry and anxiousness). During my twenties, I found coping skills for my anxiety that were mostly self-taught, although I had seen mental health counselors for short periods of time in my late teens. These sessions were scheduled by my parents; during times I seemed to be lacking the ability to cope as I should, following major events, such as relocating to new schools.

Over the years, I have observed the different trends that occur among people who are non-believers in God and also among those who are believers but who for some reason, have become angry with the God they have previously embraced. It has to do with tragedies they witness or experience in life. You can hear them making comments to the effect of: "How could God allow such tragedies and atrocities to occur in this world, when the Bible says he is a loving God?"
