Interestingly enough the area is haunted by a Hessian trooper who was beheaded by a cannonball, and he roams at night, probably in search of his head. When Ichabod attempts to woo the only daughter of a wealthy farmer, he must contend with a local hero. This classic American short story has been a staple in classrooms for well over 100 years.

Johnny was Gravendale's grave digger and embalmer who loved his job, especially picking a special spot that he thought the deceased would be proud to be buried at. Johnny was a little weird because during the embalming process, he would sit beside the cold slab the body was lying on, and as he was inserting the hose into the deceased body to drain their blood, he would read stories to them and talk to them as though they were still alive.

The parable "A Handful of Clay" by Henry Van Dyke tells us much about human potential. Read by award-winning audiobook narrator Mike Vendetti, this is a very good inspirational piece.
