Es un punto controvertido si el robo en domicilios ha de considerarse un deporte, un oficio o un arte. Para oficio la técnica es muy poco rigurosa, y sus pretensiones de que se lo considere un arte están viciadas por el elemento mercenario que determina sus triunfos. En general lo más apropiado parece ser clasificarlo como deporte, un deporte para el que en la actualidad todavía no se han formulado las reglas y cuyos premios se distribuyen de una manera extremadamente informal.

Wells had a keen interest in the political and social issues of his day, one of the most significant of which was the outbreak of the First World War. This book, written in 1916, presents the story of Mr Britling, a political commentator, living in comfortable security in his country estate at Matchings Easy, in Essex. He entertains a varied assembly of guests, including Mr Direck, an American journalist, and Herr Heinrich, a German philology student who acts as a family tutor, and the general atmosphere is a hectic social whirl.

The War in the Air: And Particularly How Mr. Bert Smallways Fared While It Lasted is a military science fiction novel written by H. G. Wells. It is (like many of Wells's works) notable for its prophetic ideas, images, and concepts - particularly the use of aircraft for the purpose of warfare - as well as conceptualizing and anticipating events related to World War I. The novel's hero and main character is Bert Smallways, who is described as "a forward-thinking young man" and a "kind of bicycle engineer of the let's-'ave-a-look-at-it and enamel-chipping variety."

Tales of Space and Time is a fantasy and science fiction collection of short stories and novellas first published in 1899. They include "The Crystal Egg"; "The Star"; "A Story of the Stone Age"; "The Idler"; and A Story of the Days to Come.

The Time Machine, perhaps Wells' best known work, tells the story of the first time traveler. Mr. Hoopdriver is a frustrated draper’s assistant in Putney, London. He is badly paid, over-worked, and he needs a holiday. He also owns a bicycle—though he is an awkward rider. When his annual ten days’ holiday comes around, Mr. Hoopdriver sets out on a bicycling tour of the “Southern Coast.” Wells wrote this at the height of the bicycling craze and before the automobile. The bicycle gave freedom to the working class, weakened the English class structure and gave a boost to female emancipation. In his story he explores these changes.

The Invisible Man is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells. Originally serialized in Pearson's Weekly in 1897, it was published as a novel the same year. The Invisible Man of the title is Griffin, a scientist who has devoted himself to research into optics and invents a way to change a body's refractive index to that of air so that it neither absorbs nor reflects light and thus becomes invisible. He successfully carries out this procedure on himself, but fails in his attempt to reverse it. An enthusiast of random and irresponsible violence, Griffin has become an iconic character in horror fiction.

In Tales of the Unknown, Wells' series of 15 stories investigate "the other side"; that is, a fourth dimension where human beings enter into a world outside or parallel to our own. In the otherworld that Wells describes, it seems we can see others, observe their actions, yet be unable to speak, hear, or touch them.

"Through a Window" is a short story by H. G. Wells (21 September 1866 - 13 August 1946), an English writer now best known for his science fiction writing; however, he also wrote fiction in other genres. In this short story, a man has broken legs, and his only entertainment is watching the river and its affairs through a window.

Anticipations, a 1901 book by H.G. Wells, is a collection of prognostications for the 20th century, and was Wells' first nonfiction best seller. Covering topics like urban growth, transportation systems, societies, language, war, democracy, and public policy, it sets out the author's ideas of what the world would be like 100 years later, in the year 2000. Wells was wrong in some aspects and quite right in others. He expected a single worldwide government with one official language, one global religion, and universal peace.

As was the case for many Victorian classic novels, H. G. Wells's The Time Machine was first published as a serial in the magazine The New Review. However for publication of The Time Machine as a book, an entire chapter was cut out by Wells himself. Here is that excised chapter, originally Chapter 11, detailing the Time Traveller's adventures in the far future, complete with an afterword tracing the history of this missing text.
