Lovecraft dedicates this horror story to Robert Bloch, who has killed Lovecraft's character in "The Shambler to the Stars". "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" is a novella by American writer H. P. Lovecraft. Begun probably in the autumn of 1926, the draft was completed on January 22, 1927 and it remained unrevised and unpublished in his lifetime. It is both the longest of the stories that make up his Dream Cycle and the longest Lovecraft work to feature protagonist Randolph Carter. Along with his 1927 novel "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward", it can be considered one of the significant achievements of that period of Lovecraft's writing.

"The Silver Key" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in 1926, considered part of his Dreamlands series. It was first published in the January 1929 issue of Weird Tales. It is a continuation of "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath", and was followed by a sequel, "Through the Gates of the Silver Key", co-written with E. Hoffmann Price. The story and its sequel both feature Lovecraft's recurring character of Randolph Carter as the protagonist.

Randolph Carter disappeared from the site of man 7 October, 1928, at the age of 54, and a group of men have met in an olibanum scented room in New Orleans to settle his estate, assuming that Carter is, in fact, dead. Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937), better known as H. P. Lovecraft, was an American writer who achieved posthumous fame for his brilliant and highly influential works of horror fiction. Cool Air is the story of a mysterious reclusive doctor who appears to be suffering a peculiar illness which involves him cooling his rooms to extremely cold temperatures and taking strange chemical baths. Then one day the pump system which refridgerates his apartment breaks down....

Charles Dexter Ward is a young man from a prominent Rhode Island family who has disappeared from a mental asylum. He had been incarcerated during a prolonged period of insanity, during which he exhibited minor and inexplicable physiological changes. His empty cell is found to be very dusty. The bulk of the story concerns the investigation conducted by the Wards' family doctor, Marinus Bicknell Willett, in an attempt to discover the reason for Ward's madness and physiological changes.
