The film stars Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston, Billy Murray, Gwyneth Paltrow and Ben Stiller. Anderson also co-wrote and directed Bottle Rocket and Rushmore.

Fresh Air continues its Holiday Week of Songs from Broadway and Hollywood with an interview with singer-songwriter Randy Newman and comedian and filmmaker Mel Brooks. Randy Newman is best known for his hit songs "Short People," and "I Love L-A." He's written for a number of films including, Ragtime, Avalon, The Natural, Toy Story, Babe and Seabiscuit. He's received fourteen Oscar nominations and was given the Academy Award in 2002.

Hear Pulitzer-prize-winning journalist David Halberstam and music critic Milo Miles on this edition of Fresh Air. Halberstam died yesterday from injuries received in a car crash. He was 73. We listen to his interviews on Fresh Air, from 1985 and from June 3, 1993, and January 21, 1999. Halberstam was part of the 1964 Pulitzer-prize winning team that covered the emerging war in Vietnam for The New York Times.

Hear guitarist, songwriter, and actor Dave Grohl of the band Foo Fighters, and TV critic David Bianculli, on this edition of Fresh Air. The Foo Fighters' latest album, Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace, has been nominated for a Grammy as album of the year. Previously, Grohl was the drummer for the grunge band Nirvana. He formed Foo Fighters after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994.

Actress Jodie Foster on this edition of Fresh Air. Jodie Foster produced and acts in the new film The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys. Foster has won two Oscars for performances in The Silence of the Lambs and The Accused. She was also nominated for her work in Taxi Driver and Nell. Filmmaker Errol Morris on this edition of Fresh Air. His new documentary, The Fog of War, is a profile of the man many considered to be the architect of the Vietnam conflict, Robert McNamara. Taken from a series of interviews Morris conducted with McNamara, it yields new insights into the mind of the former Secretary of Defense.

Hear author Daniel Mendelsohn, TV critic David Bianculli, and film critic David Edelstein on this edition of Fresh Air. Daniel Mendelsohn's book The Lost: A Search for Six of Six Million is about investigating what happened to his great uncle's family. As a child, old Jewish relatives told stories of family members killed in the Holocaust. Mendelsohn undertook a worldwide search for surviving members of his family's town.

Former US Secretary of State Madeline Albright on this edition of Fresh Air. Before being appointed by President Clinton in 1996, she served as the US Permanent Representative to the United Nations. She also served in Clinton's cabinet and on the National Security Council. Albright's new memoir is entitled Madam Secretary.

Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Norman Mailer and the stars of the Emmy Award-winning T.V. series Cagney and Lacey, Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly on this edition of Fresh Air. Mailer talks about his 1995 book Oswald's Tale: An American Mystery. The book profiles Lee Harvey Oswald's life. Mailer says we must ask "Who was Oswald?" as a prelude to asking "Who killed JFK?". This is Mailer's 28th book. Gless and Daly played New York City Police detectives in their series which aired on CBS from 1982 to 1988.

Grover Norquist and actor Paul Newman on this edition of Fresh Air. Norquist is president of Americans for Tax Reform. He's credited with helping President Bush formulate his administration's tax plan. He also helped the Heritage Foundation draft the 1994 Contract with America.
