The Crux is the story of group of women who move from New England to Colorado in order to run a boardinghouse for men. One of these women, the young Vivian Lane, falls in love with a man who has both gonorrhea and syphilis. It then falls to Vivian, when she learns of his illnesses, to decide whether she should marry and have children with this man. She is torn between her own heart and the “duty” of motherhood, as one doctor in the novel puts it, to have children with a healthy father.

Charlotte Perkins Gilman is known for her themes of female entrapment and patriarchal control, and she gives this a Gothic twist in "The Giant Wistaria". A wealthy young couple and their friends rent a manor house, excited by the prospect that it’s haunted, and they are not disappointed when they all experience the same vivid dream.

A young woman and her husband, John, a respected physician, spend a summer at a colonial mansion. John imposes a 'rest cure' on his wife when she suffers a 'nervous depression' following the birth of their child. The woman is largely confined to the nursery upstairs where she gradually gets lost in the sickly yellow wallpaper.

Depression, schizophrenia, breakdown, psychosis are alarming events to have or to witness.

Unique to this title is a study of the themes present in Herland. Herland is a utopian novel from 1915, written by feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman, in which exists an isolated society composed entirely of women, who reproduce via parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction).
