The Strange High House in the Mist is a short story by H. P. Lovecraft. Written on November 9, 1926, it was first published in the October 1931 issue of Weird Tales. An H. P. For many years, the protagonist and his uncle, Dr. Elihu Whipple, have nurtured a dark fascination with an ancient, abandoned house on Benefit Street in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Whipple has made extensive records tracking the mysterious yet apparently coincidental sickness, madness, and death of many who have lived in the house over its 150-year existence.

The story begins with Detective Malone describing an on-duty incident in Red Hook, Brooklyn, that gave him a phobia of large buildings. Back-tracking to where it all began, the Brooklyn waterfront slum Red Hook is described in detail, with its gangs and crime, and hinting at an occult underbelly. The "case of Robert Suydam" is then told to be the driving force behind Malone's federally ordered involvement at Red Hook. Suydam's demeanor changes suddenly. Known as a shabby recluse, he is seen around town looking younger and more radiant.

The Colour Out of Space is a science fiction/horror short story by American author H. P. Lovecraft, written in March 1927. In the tale, an unnamed narrator pieces together the story of an area known by the locals as the "blasted heath" in the wild hills west of the fictional town of Arkham, Massachusetts. The narrator discovers that many years ago a meteorite crashed there, poisoning every living being nearby; vegetation grows large but foul tasting, animals are driven mad and deformed into grotesque shapes, and the people go insane or die one by one.

"The Cats of Uthar" is a strange tale about the village of Uthar, which is known for its law that no man may kill at cat. Charles Dexter Ward is a young man from a prominent Rhode Island family who has disappeared from a mental asylum. He had been incarcerated during a prolonged period of insanity, during which he exhibited minor and inexplicable physiological changes. His empty cell is found to be very dusty. The bulk of the story concerns the investigation conducted by the Wards' family doctor, Marinus Bicknell Willett, in an attempt to discover the reason for Ward's madness and physiological changes.

Basil Elton is a lighthouse keeper prone to fantasies - especially one recurring fantasy of a man in white robes on a white ship that only appears on a full moon. During this fantasy, Elton goes with the man on his ship, following an azure bird. Despite the man’s warnings that no man has ever returned from one of these realms, Elton asks that he take him to legendary land of hope. Their journey takes them to the end of the world, and instead of toppling over the side and dying, Elton wakes up on the rocks of his lighthouse next to the first shipwreck in his time as lightkeeper.

Nyarlathotep is the prose poem that marks the first appearance of "The Crawling Chaos", an Outer God in the Cthulu Mythos and one of Lovecraft’s most famous creations. Based on a vivid nightmare that Lovecraft experienced, the poem has been described as “a bleak view of human civilization in decline, and explores the mixed sensations of desperation and defiance in a dying society.”

"The Dreams in the Witch House" is a horror short story by American writer H. P. Lovecraft, part of the "Cthulhu Mythos cycle". It was written in January/February 1932 and first published in the July 1933 issue of "Weird Tales".

"The Hound" is a short story written by H. P. Lovecraft in September 1922 and published in the February 1924 issue of Weird Tales. It contains the first mention of Lovecraft's fictional text the Necronomicon. "The Hound" contains several references to the body of lore known as the Cthulhu Mythos that Lovecraft shared with other horror writers. Most notably, it marks the first appearance of one of Lovecraft's most famous literary creations-the forbidden book known as the Necronomicon.
