Instead, Barrett shows, we construct each instance of emotion through a unique interplay of brain, body, and culture.

But what if this premise is wrong? What if a person’s psychological difficulties stem from his own erroneous assumptions and faulty concepts of himself and the world? Such a person can be helped to recognize and correct distortions in thinking that cause his emotional disturbance. Now one of the founders of cognitive therapy has written a clear, comprehensive guide to its theory and practice.

Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

I Wish the PDFs were available on Audible
I am on chapter 9 and love this book so far. I love this book but I am just disappointed that the PDFs are not available as I feel like I am missing out on a lot of valuable information. Can these be added like they are on other Audible books?

Not Enough stars to provide an appropriate review
Dr. Marks has an incredible ability of explaining (in very simple terms) reasons for the kinds of experiences that we as humans have, and in doing so, she offers many ways in which we can deal with those experiences --whether that be healthy methods to coping, different perspectives of how we view ourselves and our experiences, or multitudes of treatments available which vary and can be applied based on one's individual needs. In doing such, she has helped me on my path to recovery, all the while having never even met me. I'm grateful for the understanding, empathy, guidance and wisdom she has provided in YouTube videos through the years. Now, with her new book, she most certainly does not disappoint!!! From the bottom of my heart, thank you Dr. Marks!!!

The right book for me
I enjoyed the book a lot but more importantly it was the right book for me. I will note the first part is more academic, so for some it might be boring or too nerdy. For me, it hit the spot. The second part covering strategies, tools and tactics was what I needed to motivate me to face my challenges. Thank you!

Love Dr. Tracey Marks!
I am so glad her book was available on audiobook. I find her voice quite soothing to my own anxiety. So many tips she included in here plus the best descriptions of the anxiety disorders that I have heard. There are, of course, regular books or webpages for dry explainations, but the way it is presented in this audiobook was much more entertaining and accessable to anyone who wants to learn more.
If you struggle with anxiety, or know someone who does- give this book a listen. Well worth the credit and very well thought out and put together.
