Published first in 1912, Psychology of the Unconscious was one of the most important stepping stones in the development of Jung’s thought and practice. This expressed the underlying impetus - a break from the view of the libido and its functions as taught by Sigmund Freud, which Jung had earlier adopted. It was from this point that the two approaches, which came to be known as the Swiss and Viennese schools, emerged.

In late 1913, Carl Jung set out on an exploration of his psyche, a quest he called his "confrontation with the unconscious". In doing so, he would enter an imaginative state of consciousness and experience visions, a process that continued with varying intensity for the next 10 years. Along the way, he began drafting the manuscript of his legendary Red Book. The Seven Sermons to the Dead, or "Septem Sermones ad Mortuos", is the only portion of the Red Book manuscript that Jung shared during his lifetime.

In The Undiscovered Self Jung explains the essence of his teaching for an audience unfamiliar with his ideas. He highlights the importance of individual responsibility and freedom in the context of today's mass society and argues that individuals must organise themselves as effectively as the organized mass if they are to resist joining it.

In this volume, taken from the Collective Works, Jung describes and elaborates upon the two central concepts of his psychology. Included are essays on specific archetypes, a study of the process of individuation, and an account of mandala symbolism. Carl Jung held an interest in occult phenomena from the start of his professional career. After working as an assistant physician at the Burghölzli Hospital in Zürich, in 1902 he published his doctorate titled The Psychology and Pathology of So-Called Occult Phenomena. Erich Neumann was one of C. G. Jung's most creative students and a renowned practitioner of analytical psychology in his own right. Collected Papers on Analytical Psychology comprises a selection of key writings and lectures by Carl Gustav Jung produced between 1902 and 1916, which are presented in chronological order. In symbolic terms, the archetype of the father is responsible for the child’s dynamic movement. The father becomes associated with action, activity, consciousness and independence, in order to break free of the symbiotic collective of the mother-child duo, and later the collective of society. The archetype of the great father represents the realm of light and spirit. A sound balance of the mother and the father, and their representations, is thus required to maintain the continuity of life. When this balance is lost, all aspects of life turn to the negative.

The Theory of Psychoanalysis comprises Carl Jung’s 1912 lectures at Fordham University, that outlined the future of his work in psychoanalysis, and represented a decisive break from the theories of his friend and colleague, Sigmund Freud. In these lectures, he develops his own theories of psychology based on his practical experience. He first looks at infantile sexuality, the conception of libido, and the etiological significance of the infantile sexuality.
