Publisher's summary

A 2017 Nautilus Gold Award winner.

Feel like you don’t belong? You’re not alone. The world has never been more connected, yet people are lonelier than ever. Whether we feel unworthy, alienated, or anxious about our place in the world, the absence of belonging is the great silent wound of our times.

Most people think of belonging as a mythical place, and they spend a lifetime searching for it in vain. But what if belonging isn’t a place at all? What if it’s a skill that has been lost or forgotten?

With her signature depth and eloquence, Toko-pa maps a path to belonging from the inside out. Drawing on myth, stories, and dreams, she takes us into the origins of our estrangement, reframing exile as a necessary initiation into authenticity. Then she shares the competencies of belonging: a set of ancestral practices to heal our wounds and restore true belonging to our lives and to the world.

Loveliest Book Ever, and narrated so marvelously

This is going on my shelf as one of the top 10 best books I’ve ever read. And I read A LOT! I listened to it, and absolutely loved the audio version (in fact more so than even the hard cover!). Toko-pa’s voice is so perfect it feels as if a dear friend is sitting beside you speaking the most incredible valuable truths you’ll ever hear about belonging. Buy this audiobook you won’t regret it!!

Unbelonging to Belong 💗

I knew as soon as I read Belonging on my Kindle the 1st time that I would be reading it a 2nd time and probably a 10th time. I signed up for her Encounter podcast series and was mesmerized by her soothing voice. So when I was recently called to read Belonging again I thought oh I wonder if she narrated her book (and I have to add I am not a big fan of audio books for personal reasons) but was so delighted that she did. I am only on chapter 4 but I feel as if I am gaining a deeper insght through listening to her on audio! guess If makes it more personal when you hear the authors voice. Thank You Toko Pa from someone who appreciates the sound of your voice and who has been deeply moved by this book as well as the all the work you do!! 💜✨😊

Meaningful, Poetic, Encouraging,Thought Provoking

I first enjoyed a slow thoughtful read of this deep nourishing well of a book. I recommend it most highly. A year later I also bought the Audible version. I love it too especially as a second "read"/listen.
