Publisher's summary

Since 1980, depth psychologist Bill Plotkin has been guiding women and men into the wilderness - the redrock canyons and snow-crested mountains of the American West - but also into the wilds of the soul. He calls this work soulcraft.

There's a great longing in all people to uncover the secrets and mysteries of our individual lives, to find the unique gift we were born to bring to our communities, and to experience our full membership in the more-than-human world. This journey to soul is a descent into layers of the self, much deeper than personality, a journey meant for each one of us, not just for the heroes and heroines of mythology.

A modern handbook for the journey, Soulcraft is not an imitation of indigenous ways, but a contemporary nature-based approach born from wilderness experience, the traditions of Western culture, and the cross-cultural heritage of all humanity. Filled with stories, poems, and guidelines, Soulcraft introduces over 40 practices that facilitate the descent to soul, including dreamwork, wilderness vision fasts, talking across the species boundaries, council, self-designed ceremony, nature-based shadow work, and the arts of romance, being lost, and storytelling.

Great book/terrible narrator

The narrator is a robot-void of any emotion or gravity in his reading. Get the actual book.

loved it.
Plotkin's model resonates deeply.
it offers not only an explanation behind the call but also a roadmap of how to respond and live beyond it

Very interesting

I was happy to hear that some psychotherapists consider soul in its relation to Spirit.
Very useful and interesting book.

Great book

Overall Bill Plotkin's books are great, trying to describe abstract ideas that may have some relevance in some people's lives.

Unique

I loved the aspect of mixing spirituality with nature, and exploring how we can use nature in different ways to open up our psyche. There were a lot of different methods and it broke them down to be simple and attainable. The bulk of the book is talking about how to do a full couple of days fast out in the wilderness and that was unexpected. I can't just pack up and feel confident in fasting for a few days and being out in the woods myself, but there was so much to learn and take away from even if you can't do the full fast right now. It definitely made me want to experience a soul craft journey one day though!!!

Life changing... if you’re ready for it

I started this audible back in August and now just finished it in March. Over these past 6 months, my life has changed dramatically.

I took pause at each moment I felt ‘at capacity’ with the material, to allow the words to resonate deeply, which in turn has manifested as me taking huge leaps toward living out my soul purpose.

While I’m not completely thru the awakening into my second adulthood, I am continuously held by the stories and affirmations that, it is for the betterment of myself, and the world, to maintain pace on my journey to soul—no matter how scary and uncertain each step may be.

Deep gratitude and respect to Bill Plotkin for authoring this book and following his soul path to bring others to theirs, and to Rob Grgach for his brilliant and soulful narration.

One final note: while I prefer audible, I also purchased the book as an easy reference guide. There are poems, excerpts and powerful questions that I find myself referring back to more often than my ability to effectively bookmark as I’m listening.

If there were such thing as a Soulcraft study group, I’d be in!

Other related books I love: The Four Agreements & The Celestine Prophecy — they weave together in a beautiful way that I believe has the power to change the world.

May you, too, find your SoulCraft!

Very important book Almost 5 stars

The overall message can't be overstated. Modernity, industrialization has neutered soul in the western world and most don't ever realize what the problem is.
