About this listen

In this life-changing book that blends myth, memoir, and modern-day mentors, renowned psychologist Dr. Sharon Blackie journeys from the wasteland of modern society to a place of nourishment and connection.

"Mind-blowing. An anthem for all we could be . . . I sincerely hope every woman who can read has the time and space to read it."—Manda Scott, author of Boudica and A Treachery of Spies

Like Women who Run with the Wolves, this is powerful rallying cry to women to embrace a different kind of femininity. Described as both transformative and essential, Sharon Blackie leads the listener on a quest to find their place in the world, drawing inspiration from the wise and powerful females in native mythology, and guidance from contemporary women who have re-rooted themselves in land and community and taken responsibility for shaping the future.

Beautifully written, honest, and moving, If Women Rose Rooted is a passionate song to a different kind of femininity, a rallying, feminist cry for the rewilding of womanhood; reclaiming our role as guardians of the land.

Shortly in my first impressions were, “oh my another feminist hippie self help book for the aging woman 😬” but I pressed on and did find some value in it.

There are great points about consumerism and that primal need we all have for nature to make us feel complete and happy and to be able to live free from anxiety and depression. Maybe this technology driven concrete age we live in is why so many of us have stress, anxiety, and depression.

I found definite truths about how disconnected we are from our natural world. How we don’t really know where things come from nor what it is doing to our environment. Tis true that we are all craving nature while everyday working to destroy it.

I absolutely loved the stories in this book, not just the stories about her life’s journey, but also the folklore; I especially liked the one about the silkies or silkie woman.

I completely agree that It is hard to care for what we don’t know and we all need those wild edges where one can be their true self. This book lead me down various rabbit holes and I still find myself digging deeper into some of the things she merely mentioned. This book is definitely worth reading, especially if you are a middle aged or aging woman.

This book came across my path at a retreat lead by Christine Ruth and I’m so glad I dove in. The narration is smooth and easy on the ears. The writing is beautiful and powerful, just like the elder women in its stories. Just a gorgeous book with plenty of thoughts worth bookmarking and pondering further.

Great narration, powerful story to boost women and our connection to the earth

Highly recommend this book to anyone butting head with the Patriarchy. I’m always looking for a way to connect better with the good parts of the world around me, and this book helped me see how connecting with the land can help me feel more at home in this world. Love that it was one of my first books this year🥰✨

Reconnect with the divine feminine

I walk away from this book with more ideas and intrigue than many other works have done for me in the last decade. I want to share this work with everyone I know who has an interest in folklore of the Celtic region, environmental activism, or anyone who is embarking upon a new journey. It’s a fabulous read.

Transformative story and thought provoking.

Enjoyed this book so much! Almost like my absolute favorite braiding sweetgrass, but indigenous Celtic tales. It was so good I signed up for her course!
