The listener comes up against constant dead-ends during the tale's unfolding, right up to the surprising and satisfying resolution.

This work by Zoe Anderson Norris is filled with wonderful atmosphere; the landscape of Kansas and the omnipresent wind become complete and fascinating characters of their own, in many ways influencing or even dictating the eventual outcome for our protagonists.

A gloriously touching romance by Captain Charles de Créspigny, with a nicely nuanced and observed central character that grows to a noble soul. This character, a soldier of WWI; wakes up from injury only to gradually discover through his damaged memory (partly) that his day-bride has remarried (believing him to be dead)... The soldier decides to re-invent himself and his life completely from scratch - this proves to be a tall order indeed.

A nautical mystery by Francis Marion Crawford unfolds for the listener, raising more puzzling questions than immediate answers: a boat crew find themselves minus one crew member (supposedly a twin brother) after a storm. But was it really the twin brother that went overboard? In that case, why is his presence felt so strongly? What actually happened during the fateful night? Who is it that is actually missing?

A story of ultimate redemption and finding of love for our "hero", the alcoholic gambler and Yukon gold finder Carter Brent. He strikes real gold as he comes upon a beautiful young half-breed girl called Snowdrift. The two experience adventures and adversity of all sorts, both physical and psychological. A deceptively simple, but in fact timeless, universal and profound story by Mary Raymond Shipman Andrews about a young man making personal amends for having disappointed everyone around him, from family to school - and, perhaps most importantly, himself. It moves us and makes us think with the simplicity, charm and clarity of an old, fable-like tale.

Our hero, Code Schofield, is quite in a predicament: he has lost his boat in an Atlantic gale a while back, and finds himself presently viewed upon with disdain and suspicion both by his community off the coast of New Brunswick, and by insurance investigators... Has our hero something to hide? This is a wonderfully atmospheric and suspenseful tale by Frank Williams for aficionados of sea and mystery!

There are not many clues, mostly just disturbing details, such as a chilling laughter that she keeps hearing...
