This great work by St. Ignatius Loyola begins abruptly in 1521 at the turning point in the saint's life - his injury in the battle of Pamplona when the French occupied that town and attacked its citadel. It then spans the next seventeen years up to the arrival of Ignatius and his early companions in Rome. These years are the central years of Ignatius's life. They are the years that open with his religious conversion and that witness his spiritual growth.

"Orthodoxy", published in 1908, is a book by author G. K. Chesterton, that has become a classic of Christian apologetics. In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." "The Little Match Girl" is a story about a child's dreams and undying hope. On a cold New Year's Eve, a young, poor girl tries to sell matches in the street. She is already shivering from cold and early hypothermia. Still, she is afraid to go home because her father will beat her for not selling any matches. She shelters in a nook and sits down. The girl lights the matches to warm herself. In their glow, she starts seeing the dreamlike visions, such as a Christmas tree and a holiday feast.

A work by the great Henry David Thoreau, originally published in 1849 as "Resistance to Civil Government". "Glinda of Oz" is the fourteenth "Land of Oz" book written by L. Frank Baum, published in 1920. It is the last book of the original Oz series. Like most of the Oz books, the plot features a journey through some of the remoter regions of Oz; though in this case the pattern is doubled: Dorothy and Ozma travel to stop a war between the Flatheads and Skeezers; then Glinda and a cohort of Dorothy's friends set out to try to rescue them... Wonderful, eccentric, moving and funny as always!
