    Hi!

In our last lesson, we talked about adding artwork

    to your channel.

Today, we’ll take a look at a few ways you can

quickly research keywords that will help you maximize

    visibility and grow an audience.

To start, you’ll want to always add long-tail keywords

to your descriptions. Keywords are the words and phrases

people use when they’re searching for something on the

    internet.

For example, if you’re looking for a how-to video on

creating a YouTube channel, you’d be using keywords like

“make a YouTube channel,” “create a YouTube channel,”

or “how to make a YouTube channel.”

You want to be creating content, titles, descriptions,

and metadata that contains the right keywords. These are

the ones most likely to convert a visitor into a subscriber

because the keywords you rank for match up with the content

    you are offering.

Put yourself into the viewer’s head and think about how

they would search for your content.

The YouTube search bar is a valuable tool here because it

auto-predicts what you might be trying to ask based on what

    is popular at that moment.

Try typing a few words into the search bar and see what it

    comes up with.

For example, when I typed “how to create” into the YouTube

search bar, the very first choice that came up in search was

“how to create a YouTube channel.”

The trick is to figure out what your viewers are looking for,

then find out which keywords match their search.

A fun “game” to play with keyword research is the YouTube

    Search Bar Alphabet Game.

Once you’ve picked a likely keyword phrase, type that into

the search bar and add the letter a (after a space), then see

    what comes up as possibilities.

Take note of what people are actually searching for, then

erase the “a” and type in a “b.”

Go through the entire alphabet if you have time, learning

what specific keyword phrases people are using to search

    for videos.

You’ll also want to jump on trending keywords. There are

thousands of other video creators just like you who are

    looking for keywords to use.

The key is to figure out what’s trending and find a way to

work those trending keywords into your videos.

No, we don’t mean just typing them in and pretending your

video is about that topic! Never fall victim to using ClickBait,

it'll only hurt your overall growth.

Aim for a specific segment of your audience at a time with

highly-targeted, relevant keyword phrases placed carefully

    throughout your video content.

Remember that you’re not trying to snag every YouTube viewer

out there. You’re looking to connect to your target audience.

What you’re looking for are keywords of opportunity: words or

phrases with the most search volume possible (versus keywords

with as little video competition as possible).

You want to “front-load” your video titles with keywords, include

those keywords in the first two lines of your video description,

and drop them into your video tags and playlist as well.

Show YouTube exactly what your content is about – and stick to

it over a series of videos.

That's it for now! Keep an eye out for additional tips and

    strategies in the coming weeks.

    To your success!

    Hi!

To add artwork to your YouTube channel (as well

as any other customization you wish to make), just

click on the “Customize Channel” button on the top

    right of the page.

Once you do this, you’ll be taken to another screen

where you can edit different parts of your profile.

The blue “Add Channel Art” button should be in the

center of the top border of the editor page.

This will bring up a pop-up window that will give

you the option to upload your own custom artwork.

You can also try one of YouTube’s templates from the

Gallery or upload a photo of your own.

We recommend taking a bit of time and creating your own

unique artwork with one of the free programs available

    online such as Canva.

Once your image is uploaded, you get a preview of what

it’s going to look like on desktop, television, or mobile.

If you need to, click on the “Adjust the Crop” button to

make certain your image is lined up correctly.

The clear section in the middle of the grid will show you

the content that is going to be displayed on a mobile or

desktop screen, and the rest of the image shows what’s on

    a television screen.

When you’re satisfied with the way everything looks, click

the “Select” button to add the art to your channel and save

    it.

If you ever want to change your artwork, it’s very easy.

Just hover your mouse over the image and you’ll see an

“Edit” button in the top right hand corner.

This will let you upload something else or edit what you

    already have.

Your channel will also have a space for your profile

picture (or icon). This is the icon that will show up

next to your videos and channel on every YouTube page.

The important thing to remember here is to choose something

that will be crisp and clear at very small resolution.

Your channel icon should be 800 x 800 pixels, and should

be either a .jpg, .gif, .bmp, or .png file.

And keep in mind that you can’t use animated .gif files

    for your profile.

To upload or update your profile icon, just go to your

channel homepage and hover your mouse over the current

icon until you see the “Edit Icon” link appear.

Click that and you can upload a new image.

    Done!

In our next lesson, we’ll talk about ways that

    you can optimize your channel.

    Hi,

Today we’ll talk about the different types of equipment

commonly used by professional video creators.

To start, your smartphone can certainly record a video

and depending on your channel type, it may be all you need.

However, in the event you are looking to step things up,

    here are some recommendations.

Most YouTubers use DSLR or mirrorless cameras, along with

accessories like tripods, studio lighting, backgrounds,

    and lenses.

If you plan to vlog on the go, you may want to invest in

a mirrorless or action camera as well as a good monopod

    or handheld gimbal stabilizer.

You don’t need to rush out and buy the most expensive

DSLR on the market, though. Any camera that can record

high-quality (at least 1080p) video will do fine. The

type of camera you buy should reflect the sort of video

    you’ll be producing.

A camcorder is obviously a good choice for making a video.

Today’s camcorders are compact, lightweight, built to

handle nearly every sort of situation, and pretty

    affordable.

A webcam may be the best choice if you want an affordable,

plug-and-play video camera, especially if you’re going

to be doing most of your recording in front of your computer.

A webcam also makes live streaming easier since it can

be directly connected to your computer. Action cameras

like the GoPro are compact and versatile. They’re best

suited for photographers who want to film themselves

    and others in action.

Mirrorless cameras have become popular with video

creators because they shoot like a DSLR but have a

significantly smaller and lighter body. You can use them

at your home studio or on the go.

A DSLR will give you the most professional results.

They’re highly adaptable in low-light situations and

    provide polished video recording quality.

You’ll also need a good tripod to stabilize the video

    quality.

Finally, you’ll want to invest in a good microphone,

preferably one that mounts on your camera. Built-in mics

    almost never provide high-quality sound.

Always be conscious of your recording quality and make

sure your voice (or whatever you’re recording) is clear

and audible to your audience. Some YouTubers even invest

in several different microphones for different purposes.

A shotgun microphone is designed to capture sound mostly

from the front, so noise from the sides and behind the

    microphone can be canceled out.

USB microphones have become one of the standard picks

because of how easy they are to use, their sound quality,

    their affordability and versatility.

Another good choice is a condenser microphone, which can

pick up delicate sounds and is ideal for recording vocals.

And a lavalier or lapel mic is wireless and can be clipped

onto your clothing or a belt. These come in a set that

includes the transmitter and the receiver.

Lighting equipment is also necessary if you’re going to be

primarily recording indoors or in dimly lit areas. And even

if there’s plenty of ambient light, studio lights can even

out the brightness of your setup and modify the mood of the

    shot.

A softbox can emulate the natural soft lighting from a

window due to the diffusion panel that decreases the

intensity of harsh, direct light. Umbrella lights are

inexpensive and portable and are ideal for YouTubers who

    need soft lighting.

They create a more controlled light than a softbox and are

perfect for backdrops and on-location shoots.

Ring lights are popular with YouTubers as well. They

eliminate shadows from every direction, making anybody

look more attractive in front of the camera.

You do want to pay attention to your backgrounds, as well.

You don’t want a cluttered area behind you, or too much movement

to distract viewers from your subject.

Tomorrow, we'll talk about adding artwork to your channel.

    Hi,

Yesterday we talked about editing your videos so

you can keep your viewers' attention throughout. This

included "tricks" like using pattern interrupts every

30 seconds to change things up and keep their interest.

Today, we’ll look at some tips on creating great thumbnails

that'll catch a viewer’s interest and entice them to start

    watching.

In case you aren't familiar with the term, a thumbnail is a

small image that gives a teaser of what your actual video is

    going to be about.

Here are some thumbnail tips to keep in mind:

If people are going to be in your thumbnails, keep in mind

the “Three E’s” – eyes, emotion, and excitement.

Make sure everyone’s eyes are pointed at the viewer, so

they feel connected to the video.

Make sure there is emotion portrayed in the thumbnail,

and make sure there is excitement being portrayed somewhere

    in the thumbnail.

If you can get your viewers connected, they’re more likely

    to watch your entire video.

    Use backgrounds that stand out:

Try colorful backgrounds that make the foreground pop out

    at the viewer.

Also, consider a background color or style that’s totally

different from the typical ones used by your competitors.

You want your thumbnail to really stand out when viewers are

quickly scrolling. If your thumbnail looks different from everyone

else’s, chances are, it'll grab their attention.

Oversaturate the colors in your thumbnail or sharpen the focus.

The point here is to make your thumbnails “pop” when they’re

    reduced in size.

Remember to design small. You’ll be creating the thumbnail

on a full screen, but always keep in mind that viewers are

going to be seeing it micro-sized on their screens.

Make sure everything is going to show up super-clear and

super-colorful. Any text must be easily read on the small

    screen.

Use your thumbnail to give just a teaser for your video,

not the whole idea or concept.

You want people to be intrigued and start watching, not

just scan the thumbnail and move right along.

If you’re creating a tutorial, show the payoff (results) in the

thumbnail. They’ll have to watch your video to see how to get to

that payoff, reward or conclusion, but show them what they’re

    aiming for.

When you finish your thumbnail, take a good objective look

and ask yourself if you would click on that thumbnail if

you saw it on your screen.

Make sure it’s the best you can possibly produce and you’re

    more likely to attract viewers.

Tomorrow, we’ll talk about some of the tools of the trade.

    Don't miss it!

Want more tips and tricks? (click here) Hi, In our last lesson we talked about the importance of developing a solid plan for your channel prior to creating content. Today, we’re going to talk about editing your videos, including a few tips that'll help you produce the highest-quality content possible. To start, don’t just record random footage and hope for the best - create a plan for every video. Whether this includes creating a loose script or using a whiteboard to demonstrate the flow or storyline, it's always best to have at least a general idea as to what you want your video to be about, as well as a beginning, middle and end. You may end up with half your footage on the “cutting room floor,” but that’s fine if it leaves you with a better video to upload. When it comes to creating the best video content possible, the more you have to work with (even if you edit a ton of it out), the better. You should alway edit out those little pauses that occur throughout a video, particularly at the beginning and end. If nothing’s happening to excite the audience or explain your concept, edit it out. Keep only the material that moves your video along and hooks your viewers. The key is nonstop engagement. Your video should keep a steady pace. No lapses, no lag. Another editing trick to think about is a pattern interrupt. This is technically anything that interrupts a pattern you’ve got going, like a long monologue. You’re doing something unexpected that catches the viewer’s eye and keeps them watching. Your typical viewer spends about half a second deciding if a video is worth their time or not. You want to snag them during that half-second and hook their attention. Spice things up by sprinkling pattern interrupts throughout your video. As a general rule, you want a pattern interrupt about every 30 seconds. Just sprinkle them in based on the flow of your script. One type of interrupt is the different camera angle. You’ve seen this in news programs and talk shows. Just switch to a different camera that shows the scene from a different angle. Many YouTubers shoot with two cameras – one face-on and the second at a side angle or side close-up. Another trick is to use a B-roll or B-reel. This is secondary footage, usually shown with a voice-over from the primary (A) footage. You see this in documentaries. You’re watching an expert talk, then suddenly you’re looking at footage of the subject of the documentary, with a voice-over from the expert. You can do the same thing by first shooting an interview with your subject. Then, for your B-roll, shoot footage of day-to-day activities, favorite hobbies, place of business, employees, and working in the office. Then cut between the interview and the B-roll footage to keep things interesting. You can also use animation to spice up a video. If you don’t have the time or skill to create cartoons, you can buy a pack of generic animation from Videohive or a similar site. Plug in some related text and you’re good to go. Your video needs 3 things to succeed: • A good thumbnail to catch interest • A good 10-second opening hook • Pattern interrupts sprinkled in every 30 seconds. So, think about this when you're creating your next video. Tomorrow we’ll talk about how you can create attention-grabbing thumbnails for your videos. #wupples #wupplesbiz #youtube #youtuber #youtubers #youtubechannel #youtubevideo #youtubegaming #youtubeuse #youtubeitalia #youtubeblogger #youtubevideos #youtubegamer #youtubelife #YouTubeGamers #youtubebrasil #youtubemusic #youtubekids #youtubestar #youtubemarketing #youtubeblack #youtuberlife #youtubecommunity #youtubersbrasil #youtubecouple #youtuberin #youtubefamily #YouTubeIndia #youtubeusebeaut #youtuberindonesia #youtuberedit #youtubemama #workfromhome #workfromhomemom #workfromhomedad #workfromhomemoms #workfromhomejob #workfromhomelife #workfromhomemum #workfromhomemommy #workfromhomeday

    Hi,

In our last lesson, we talked about the importance

of choosing a theme for your channel.

Today, we’ll talk about creating a solid strategy

that will help you create a snapshot of what you

want and expect from your channel.

Before you create your channel, you’ll want to

develop a strategy that gives you clear direction.

Let’s start by answering a few questions:

What are your ultimate goals for your channel?

Knowing what you hope to achieve from your channel

early on is key to your overall success.

Whether your channel’s main objective is to maximize

awareness of an existing brand or build a new business

quickly, it’s important to understand the purpose of

    your channel.

Then, set both small and large goals and celebrate

milestones along the way. Doing this will keep you

    motivated and focused.

    Who is your target audience?

Try to be as specific as you can with this one.

How old are your typical viewers? What gender are they?

    Marital status? Hobbies? Interests?

What are they going to want out of you and how are

    you going to deliver?

Having a clear image of your target viewers will

help you reach the right people and grow your channel

    properly.

Why should your audience watch your videos?

What are you going to give them that someone else

in your field isn’t already providing?

Why should they choose your channel over the millions

of other how-to channels out there?

This is one place where you don’t want to join in the

status quo – you want to disrupt it.

How are you going to deliver your content?

Are you going to post every day? Once a week? At a

    specific time of day?

Think about your target audience. When are they most

likely to be watching videos? How many videos do they

    watch in a week?

Tailor your posting schedule to your target audience’s

viewing habits and you’ll find it a lot easier to grow

    your audience quickly.

    What is your channel about?

If you have the word “and” in your reply, your channel

is likely too broad and vague.

Instead, choose a very specific topic and stick to it

when starting out – at least until your channel has a

    strong foothold in your niche.

Once you’ve thought about each one of these questions

and answered them honestly, you’ll have a better

understanding of what your channel’s overall purpose is

    and your business goals.

And knowing all this will give you something we call a

Value Proposition, which tells your audience who you

are and why they should watch your channel.

You’ll have a clear focus, a strong theme and a solid

brand message that resonates with your audience.

In our next lesson, we’ll talk about editing your videos.

    Hi!

In this week’s lessons we’ll talk about some of our

best strategies for building and growing a YouTube

    channel.

Today, let's talk about the importance of choosing a

    theme for your channel.

You want people to associate your channel with one main

theme when you’re just starting out.

You want people to hear the name of your channel and

immediately associate it with a specific theme.

Then you can branch out later once you’ve established a

    following.

    Examples:

    * Go-to person for tips on social media marketing.

    * Go-to channel for do-it-yourself home improvement videos.

You also want your channel name to be unique, memorable

and clear. Don’t piggyback off someone else’s channel name.

Instead, work towards creating a brand that’s unique and

    all your own.

And there’s one more thing to consider when deciding on

a name for your channel. You want to choose one that allows

your content to evolve over time.

While your channel name should make it very clear to

viewers what type of content they can expect, you also want

to make sure that your channel name isn’t so strictly

focused that when you want to branch out later and

create content for other areas of your market, you

    end up confusing your audience.

Example: Let’s say that you are interested in creating

a channel that provides home-improvement tutorials.

Instead of choosing a name for your channel that

focuses on one specific type of home-improvement project,

consider a memorable name that implies the type of

content you’re offering, but is flexible (broad) enough

to where you can cover all the different types of

    improvements as your channel grows.

In tomorrow's lesson, we'll take a look at why you

should develop a snapshot for your channel before

    you even begin creating content.

Doing this will help you define your channel's overall

purpose, your goals and how you'll accomplish them.

    Hi!

Today we’ll look at monetization in YouTube Studio.

If you are monetizing, the Monetization tab at the channel level

will give you an overview, along with individual tabs giving you more

information about specific revenue sources, like merchandise,

    memberships, giving, and more.

To turn on monetization or update ad settings for a specific video,

click on the video and then click “Monetization” in the left menu.

Then, you can turn monetization on or off. When you upload “long form”

videos (ten minutes or longer), you can also enable ads during the middle

    of the video.

    These are called mid-roll ads.

You can enable these using the “Ad Breaks” tool. Under “Location of Video

Ads,” select “During Video” and then click “Place Manually.”

This will open the Studio Editor, where you can create, preview, and edit

either automatically generated or manually placed ads.

To create automatically generated mid-roll ads, click “Place Automatically.”

To place an ad manually, click “Add Ad Break.” When editing the placement of

your ad breaks, either enter specific time codes at the top of the page or use

the timeline below it to drag and drop the ad as necessary.

To delete, just click the trash can icon.

Once you’ve made your changes, click “Continue” and “Save” from the

    Monetization page.

And you’ve got your ad placed just where you want it.

What if you’re new to monetization though? In order to monetize your

channel, you need to have 1,000 subscribers or more, and have at least

4,000 public watch hours in the past 12 months.

Oh, and follow the rest of YouTube’s monetization policies, which you

    can easily look up.

That’s it for now! Make sure to keep an eye out for additional follow-up

    lessons over the coming weeks.
