    In this week’s lessons we’ll talk about some of our

    best strategies for building and growing a YouTube

    channel.


    Today, let's talk about the importance of choosing a

    theme for your channel.


    You want people to associate your channel with one main

    theme when you’re just starting out.


    You want people to hear the name of your channel and

    immediately associate it with a specific theme.


    Then you can branch out later once you’ve established a

    following.


    Examples:


    * Go-to person for tips on social media marketing.


    * Go-to channel for do-it-yourself home improvement videos.


    You also want your channel name to be unique, memorable

    and clear. Don’t piggyback off someone else’s channel name.


    Instead, work towards creating a brand that’s unique and

    all your own.


    And there’s one more thing to consider when deciding on

    a name for your channel. You want to choose one that allows

    your content to evolve over time.


    While your channel name should make it very clear to

    viewers what type of content they can expect, you also want

    to make sure that your channel name isn’t so strictly

    focused that when you want to branch out later and

    create content for other areas of your market, you

    end up confusing your audience.


    Example: Let’s say that you are interested in creating

    a channel that provides home-improvement tutorials.


    Instead of choosing a name for your channel that

    focuses on one specific type of home-improvement project,

    consider a memorable name that implies the type of

    content you’re offering, but is flexible (broad) enough

    to where you can cover all the different types of

    improvements as your channel grows.


    In tomorrow's lesson, we'll take a look at why you

    should develop a snapshot for your channel before

    you even begin creating content.


    Doing this will help you define your channel's overall

    purpose, your goals and how you'll accomplish them.
