About this listen

All she wanted was the truth, but she'll wish she never found out.

When Catherine wakes up alone one morning, she thinks her husband has gone for a run before work. But Simon never makes it to the office. His running shoes are by the front door. Nothing is missing - except him.

Catherine knows Simon must be in trouble. He wouldn't just leave her. He wouldn't leave the children.

But Simon knows the truth - about why he left and what he's done. He knows things about his marriage that it would kill Catherine to find out. The memories she holds onto are lies.

While Catherine faces a dark new reality at home, Simon's halfway around the world, alive and thriving. He's doing whatever it takes to stay one step ahead of the truth.

But he can't hide forever, and when he reappears twenty-five years later, Catherine will finally learn who he is.

And wish she'd stayed in the dark.

What would make you want to leave your life behind

I listened to the audiobook. This book didn't grab me like the other John Marrs books. It was very slow and I just felt frustrated. This book has two points of view, both Catherine's and Elliot's. It also has varying time periods, sometimes within the same chapter. Sometimes I found myself struggling to decide which time period I was listening to.

As the title implies, one day, Elliot just disappears without a trace. The book follows both Catherine and Elliot after that fateful day. I kept waiting to hear the big reason Elliot disappeared and all the struggles Catherine and his children went through with his disappearance. I figured the reason he left had to be good, I mean huge to ruin that many lives, right??? Who just ruins their children's lives?

Like I said, it was a slow book for me. I just never connected to the characters and didn't love it.

He should have stayed gone

The book was alright. The back and forth was starting to get a little annoying because of how short some of the parts were. I prefer at least a chapter for different time lines. There was a ton of build up and the. The end just seemed rushed. Like here this is what happened the end.

OMG

Wow!! What a twisted character !! I’ve never read a book with more twists and turns than this book! All I can say is, this is what happens when you don’t communicate!!!

John marrs did it again

The way he describes emotions always get me. I catch myself tearing listening to how the struggles of characters take a toll on them. Amazing storyline with a great performance.

The Definition of "Chomping at the Bit"

You obviously know from the start that there are secrets ahead, and you can only keep reading and hope you'll get to know them all. What a terribly sad, beautifully written story. Another satisfying John Marrs masterpiece.

Quite a Different Book

Disturbing yet well written and excellently narrated. It’s one of them books that as you’re reading it, you ask yourself why am I still reading this? It was upsetting to see, or understand why Simon had left. The more and more his character and choices becomes known throughout the book, you start to get a glimpse of just how crazy he is. I finished the book end it with a deep exhale and a sigh.

The sad lies , and the ending

Confessed at the beginning, but a very good story , sad ending to the story. I could listen to it again.
