About this listen

An enemies-to-lovers spicy romance set in the world of video gaming from the bestselling author of The Love Hypothesis—available only in audio!

Viola Bowen has the chance of a lifetime: to design a video game based on her all-time favorite book series. The only problem? Her co-lead is Jesse F-ing Andrews, a.k.a. her arch-nemesis. Jesse has made it abundantly clear over the years that he wants nothing to do with her–and Viola has no idea why.

When their bosses insist a wintery retreat is the perfect team-building exercise, Viola can’t think of anything worse. Being freezing cold in a remote mountain lodge knowing Jesse is right next door? No, thank you.

But as the snow piles on, Viola discovers there’s more to Jesse than she knew, and heat builds in more ways than one.

Two can play

The short and sweet you know and love from Ali Hazlewood. All her stories are uniquely their own but something about her stories always have this underlying familiarness she brings out so well without it being so specifically the same as her other books. Enjoyed this short read.

Great narration

Super quick read. Miscommunication, pining, work rivals, he’s a cinnamon roll, they’re both video game geeks. Spicy, work retreat. It ends before we get too deep, but assume it’s an HEA.

10/10 Would Recommend

I don't know, sometimes I think, "maybe I've blown my love for Ali Hazelwood out of proportion, maybe I've just hyperfixated on her because we both love fanfiction and women in STEM". But NOPE. She blows my mind every goddamn time. My heart is so happy. Thank you, Ali, for sharing another incredible story with the world. We truly do not deserve you.

Formulaic and well delivered

Typical miscommunication workplace rivals to lovers romcom.
I enjoyed it even though it was extremely predictable. Laughed at several moments, enjoyed the pining, and wrap it up with a nice bow.

Short and sweet

Looove the pining and teenage angst feel of this! A good short story that is filled with quality smut

Books, video games and spice. Yes please!!!

I really enjoyed this. The narrator is really good. I loved the story. Taking a beloved book series to turn into a video game hit all my nerdy buttons. This is a short story but even with that there is some slow burn to get things going. The spice when it gets there is worth the wait. I will for sure listen to this again!

This narrators performance was wonderful bringing these characters to life for fun, angsty, spicy & swoony listen as the story unfolded!

Spectacular. Give me 14 of them right now.

I mean, really, what is there to say? I’m a proud member of the Hazelhood! OF COURSE I’D LOVE IT!!

Now as an audiobook girl, did I wish it was longer? Of course. Did I LOVE the narrator? No, but like with all voice actors, you eventually just get used to them. In all, I will respect the book for what it was: a sponsorship deal. I loved it all the same. Shoutout to Spotify (whom I don’t even use) for getting my girl some dough and delivering another piece of art to my soul.

LOVED Two Can Play

FIRST, I have to say that I am a fan of all things Ali Hazelwood! She is absolutely 💯 brilliant and I both read and listen to her books.

This book is more a short story in length. Kelsi Navarro Foster does an excellent job of narrating both the MFL Viola and MML Jesse.

Viola and Jesse meet about six years before at a job interview. There is of course a misunderstanding and they miss their chance together.

They meet again when their companies are competing for a gaming contract that revolves around a book they both read. Viola as a child, then older teen with her dad (which is very sad and I'm not giving anything away). Jesse reads the book later, in an attempt to get over Viola.

Sparks fly of course and they get their HEA. I really wanted this story to be longer and there are characters who I hope Ms. Hazelwood gives us in either other books or their own story.
