Publisher's summary

A number-one best seller in several categories with over 14,000 five-star ratings on Goodreads.

From the number-one New York Times best-selling and award-winning author Colleen Hoover comes "A stand-alone romantic thriller that is tragic, creepy, and brilliant!" (Mel Reader Reviews)

Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of best-selling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.

Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of the night their family was forever altered.

Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.

Sexy. Twisted. Consuming.

Due to graphic scenes and mature content, this book is recommended for listeners 18+.

Way too much sex

If you don't like to hear about someone's sex life over and over and over and over again, don't buy this book. It wasn't even good sex scenes. Just lots of F*&^ing. I started fast forwarding through it after awhile it was so bad. The twist at the end was pretty good. I didn't see it coming. That's the only reason the story got 3 stars from me. The narrators were good.

It was okay

The ending was disappointing.
Plus the sex scenes were gross (not sexy).
It was a good story though.

First time listener of Colleen Hoover

I typically don’t leave a review, but I couldn’t close this out and not. This was an amazing roller coaster of a book that I couldn’t stop listening to. Three chapters from the end I started looking for other books from Colleen Hoover. If the next is as good as this book, I’ll be hooked on listening to her books for days to come!

Who is Verity?

I was told by many people to read this book. Although it was entertaining and at times extremely chilling I found it a bit predictable and maybe too dark for my particular taste. As a parent it was a very difficult read. One redeeming factor about this novel though is the fact that I am still unsure about what exactly is the truth in the end. Who actually is Verity?

A little predictable

Lots of sex, but loved the plot twist ending. Narrator sounds like siri and it is extremely distracting. I will make sure that I don’t listen to another story with that narrator. I would have preferred to read this.

This was a total Mind F@ck!

Where to start...unlike any other Coho books ever but yet deviously devilish and somehow obvious until surprisingly it wasn’t. Dayum was I surprised by the left it took. What a trip. This is a great book and one to enjoy but not in the dark.

A Page Turner

Very original plot and wonderful narration! I wish it had had less f-words and sex, but I totally understand the reasoning.

Good book hurt

I do not want to hurt the feelings of a reader but the voice of Löwen Ashleigh is very irritating and made it difficult to listen to. She sounded phony and shrill. She soul do children’s books.

The story was great. The ending a surprise twist. Hope Hoover has more ideas like this.
