About this listen

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Nicholas Sansbury Smith comes a brand-new novella set in the world of the Hell Divers series.

Before you knew him as the king or the Immortal, he was Commander Xavier “X” Rodriguez—with ninety-six dives under his belt, the most experienced Hell Diver on the airship known as the Hive. Time after time, he dived through the electrical storms, returning with parts to keep his home in the sky. Then, on a jump into Hades, the most hostile environment in North America, he sacrificed everything for mission and team. They returned to the airship with the fuel cells needed to keep the Hive running, but X was left behind.

This is the story of how he becomes the last man on Earth. His will drives him to keep fighting, to survive the monsters and the radiation in the wastes, to find a way back home. But as the days pass, he feels the things that make him human slipping away. He has become a waif, a phantom, with little to live for. Then he stumbles upon something that makes him feel again.

This is the chronicle of those lost years, told for the first time ever.

Great story but felt rushed

So I want to start out by saying Nick is my favorite author and 3 of his series are in my top 5 favorite series. His writing style and ability to capture our hearts and attention is like no other. I was extremely excited for this story and I really did enjoy it but it felt rushed. I feel like there could have been so much more adventures written. wasn't he there for like 10 years? (it's been a few years I forgot the exact amount) and I would have loved to followed him all the way to when he was saved once more. What is there was amazing I guess I'm just disappointed with what is not there. But keep up the great work Nick I'm stoked for Rhinos story!!

How X survived and got his dog.

I like how X survived the initial ordeal and what he had to do to stay alive.

Amazing!

I want more! Loved listening to how X found Miles on the surface. I read on social media the author has more of these planned with other characters like Timothy Pepper, but it took a while to get this one out due to the wait for narration. It sounds like Smith is working on longer HD novels and this was just to tide us over. It worked, but I really do hope there are more of the lost years with X and his furry pal. Bray does an amazing job as always bringing this unique tale to life. Well done!

Up too long of a wait

Multiple all in all acute story. Glad it do that. Listen to it, but All In all kind of boring.

Too short

I was so excited when I saw something new in the Hell Divers universe that I didn’t realize until AFTER I used my monthly credit that it was only 2.5 hours long. Most of the 10 years X spent on the surface is a mystery that it could easily be its own series. I think this should’ve just been a chapter in the previous series.
