About this listen

From the author of the Audie Award-winning and the New York Times best-selling Marriage Games comes a deeply intense new series.

Everything is going to be perfect. Greyson comes home from deployment to live the life she and her husband Caden dreamed of. He has a surgical residency, and she has a psychiatric practice in the basement of their Manhattan brownstone.

Caden loves his wife more than he can measure. But he starts hearing whispers. Someone else loves her. Someone else wants her. There's someone else, and though whoever's behind the whispers will move mountains to have her, Caden will move heaven and earth to keep her.

Greyson will never break her vows, even as their marriage snaps apart one piece at a time; even as the line between reverie and reality blurs; even as Caden demands control, and Greyson cedes it. She will never, ever turn her back on him. When their marriage crumbles, her resolve shakes and love becomes the one thing holding them together.

Struggled to finish....

This isn't CD Reiss' best work. It had the author's characteristic complex story lines and top shelf writing. There was a huge speed bump however in the irrational behaviour of Greysen, the army major psychiatrist.

As the story progressed there were fewer detailed descriptions of Caden and Greysen's sexual encounters (sadomasochistic sex) and post-coital debates about paraphilias. That was good as the sex had become monotonous and it was increasingly difficult to hold onto the image of Greysen as an intelligent, strong woman. Her trust that her damaged, volatile husband in the throes of mental illness wouldn't seriously harm her was unjustified and denied everything her professional training would have told her.

If you don't have a need to reconcile the highly accomplished, capable psychiatrist's behaviour with her misplaced and out-of-character approach to her husband's illness then this would be a very entertaining story. For me that illogical behaviour was an irritant that never resolved itself. I finished the story but won't be listening to it a second time.

The narrators were excellent, as these two almost always are.

Wow

I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that! This novel is marvelous, the twists and turns kept me engaged until the very end! The ending is spectacular, sad tears went to happy tears within minutes! The narrators Joe and Maxine did an amazing job bringing the story to life! They are my favorite narrators!

SO AMAZING! LOVED THE DUAL NARRATION!

This was a long audiobook but soooo worth listening to.

I was riveted to every second of this book. I loved the characters. I loved the dual narration and anything narrated by Joe Arden is always a winner.

This book had so many twists and turns. I could not stop listening until it ended. I had it going at work, in my car at home and was compelled to listen until the very end.

I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone.

Undecided

Can't say if I liked or hated this audiobook. The idea behind the story is not bad, but it might have been dragged out over too many hours. Maybe if it had been more focused and to the point, it could have worked better... I don't know...
The only objective information I can give is that it took me several days to finish this book, and that is very unusual for me.

BDSM

This book was not my cup of tea. There was nonstop violent sex which was cringey to listen to. The story line was unrealistic and seemed to be slipped in between the sex. In addition the story is insulting to members of the Army. But I gotta hand it to the narrators. They did an excellent job acting what must have been uncomfortable.

Brilliant, competent doctors do ridiculous things.

I struggled to push through this book. The absurd choices that qualified physicians make in this book in regards to mental and physical health, made me yell WHY for most of the listen. The premise of the story kept me engaged...miracle drug to help soldiers, mystery side effects, and STELLAR narration. Ultimately, it just wasn't enough to overcome the ridiculous choices the main characters kept making.

Strange

I appreciate the abilities of CD Reiss, but this book was odd for me. I purchased thinking it was a romance novel and it isn't. It's more like a psychological military mystery with some sex scenes. The story seemed drawn out a bit much and I struggled to finish this one. The narration actually kept me listening...Great Job !

Epic Love Story

How is there not more reviews for this. I've seen too many inferior books with thousands of reviews. This is books 1-4 in one collection. It's well worth the credit. The narrators do an excellent job voicing two characters who will go to great lengths for the love they share.

Perfection

This is the narrative work that made me fall in love with Joe Arden and Maxine Mitchell. Not to mention what hooked me on CD Reiss’s writing. It’s a regular one for me to go back and listen to. And every time I do, I find so much more than the last time.
