About this listen

2016 Editor's Pick

2016 Audible's Best in Science Fiction

The New York Times and USA Today best-selling series

More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

When one of the remaining airships is damaged in an electrical storm, a Hell Diver team is deployed to a hostile zone called Hades. But there's something down there far worse than the mutated creatures discovered on dives in the past - something that threatens the fragile future of humanity.

GUINEA PIG MEAT

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I SAW, BUT I DON'T EVER WANT TO SEE IT AGAIN
Scary, Adventurous, exciting and puts you in the middle of the action. Smith has really come up with a winner here. His apocalyptic world is filled with scary eyeless mutants, that want to eat you. It is has these huge electrical storms and no sun light. A little over 500 humans are surviving barely, on an airship that was not meant to be home to anybody. My first review of a NSS book was damaging and just not good. I am glad I gave this author a second chance. This book will put him on the map. NSS has built two great worlds. One is the destroyed earth and the other is in the air. The writing is so well done, that you feel you are there.

WHAT ARE THOSE MUTANT F'S DIGGING FOR?
I really like the mutants in this book. I love the diving even more. The characters are a bit cliché, their are no light moments and this will never be considered a classic piece. None the less, this entertains 100% of the time. At the time of this writing, this is number Uno for Sci-Fi contemporary. That is because it was a daily deal. It will fall below Martian, Bob and Expedition, but it will hang around the top ten for a long time. In July, when the sequel comes out, it will probably start as number one, so you might as well get this read now.

Bray
What can I say about this guy that I have not already said? I feel sorry for Science Fiction, Horror, or adventure writers that can't get Bray to do their narrating. His name alone, sells audio books.

Best narration I've ever heard for any book.

Just finished book 5 after downloading it yesterday. All of the books are like this.
Post apocalyptic sci-fi was never really my thing, but I guess I can't say that anymore.
The dedication at the beginning of book 5 is to narrator, R.C Bray for giving voice to "X", Xavier Rodriguez - a major character. But R.C. does the same for every character. He's the Jimi Hendrix of narration and absolutely brings this series to life.
Trust the other reviews, saying, "Just buy the book", and appreciate not just the barn burner of a series that could easily make its way into a screen adaptation - but also for the masterful talent of the narrator, who is clearly in his element.

I'm Hooked Big Time!

Would you consider the audio edition of Hell Divers to be better than the print version?

I love audio books. RC Bray is one of my favorite authors so I don't see how the written version could surpass the audio. Loved it!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hell Divers?

There were a couple. The dives in general were very dramatic and easy to picture in my mind. I also loved/hated the ending. I have to wait till the next book to find out how it really ends. Ugh!

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

Tin was my favorite. A survivor through and through. Big things in his future for sure.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was on the edge the whole time I listened to this book. The pace is electric and suspenseful.

Any additional comments?

The post apocalyptic genre is pretty common but this was a fresh take on it. I loved the concept and looked forward to this book more than chocolate! The cover art is great too.

Loved it!

If you could sum up Hell Divers in three words, what would they be?

Interesting, different, well-written.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hell Divers?

The way the writer describes the creatures is so well done, they gave me the creeps.

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Probably nothing because I prefer to read over listening. He was really good, though.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Earth is uninhabitable and only Hell Divers can save mankind.

Any additional comments?

Exceptionally well-written. Perfectly descriptive of existing conditions and characters without over doing it. Can't wait for the next book!

This books is down right amazing

This book is the right amount of grit and suspense that I have come to love. Any one who really cuts it down doesn't have a imagination but dwells more on certain factual parts and can't broaden there mind 🤷

hey, not bad. brave the rads and get down with it.

What did you love best about Hell Divers?

The comparison to "Metro 2033" is spot on. but this story is not quite as Dark capital D.
Everything is ridiculously implausible but so what! its a good shoot'm up adventure.
this book is like a good hotdog. its good enough that I don't want to think about whats in it.

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Bray kills it once more. love his work.

Any additional comments?

really good book

I had put off listening to this for awhile but i decided to give it a chance and dove in yesterday, I'm pleasantly surprised. its bleak, yet hopeful action packed and filled with suspense. if a book can distract you from all the streaming media, YouTube videos, and video games out now in the world its one hellava book.
