Story
In The Butchering Art, the historian Lindsey Fitzharris reveals the shocking world of 19th-century surgery on the eve of profound transformation. She conjures up early operating theaters - no place for the squeamish - and surgeons, working before anesthesia, who were lauded for their speed and brute strength. They were baffled by the persistent infections that kept mortality rates stubbornly high. A young, melancholy Quaker surgeon named Joseph Lister would solve the deadly riddle and change the course of history.

Story
In Waves in an Impossible Sea, physicist Matt Strassler tells a startling tale of elementary particles, human experience, and empty space. He begins with a simple mystery of motion. When we drive at highway speeds with the windows down, the wind beats against our faces. Yet our planet hurtles through the cosmos at 150 miles per second, and we feel nothing of it. How can our voyage be so tranquil when, as Einstein discovered, matter warps space, and space deflects matter? The answer, Strassler reveals, is that empty space is a sea, albeit a paradoxically strange one.

Gases are all around us—they fill our lungs, power our movement, create stars, and warm our atmosphere. Perhaps the biggest question Stephen Hawking tried to answer in his extraordinary life was how the universe could have created conditions so perfectly hospitable to life. In order to solve this mystery, Hawking studied the big bang origin of the universe, but his early work ran into a crisis when the math predicted many big bangs producing a multiverse—countless different universes, most of which would be far too bizarre to harbor life.

Quantum theory is weird. As Niels Bohr said, if you aren’t shocked by quantum theory, you don’t really understand it. For most people, quantum theory is synonymous with mysterious, impenetrable science. And in fact for many years it was equally baffling for scientists themselves. In this tour de force of science history, Manjit Kumar gives a dramatic and superbly written account of this fundamental scientific revolution.

So interesting and easy to follow
This audiobook simplified everything in a way that felt approachable without losing depth. The clear and engaging explanations make complex ideas easy to grasp without feeling oversimplified. I even found myself relating some concepts to my daily life! This is the perfect starting point if you want to explore quantum physics without diving into heavy math. Physics was a little intimidating back in school and now it seems to be a topic I find really interesting. This audiobook made quantum physics fun and accessible and for the first time I’m excited to keep learning more.

Not a brainiac
This is one of those topics that sounds entirely too complicated and above my head. This audiobook, however, presented the information in a digestible way, so I was not too overwhelmed and was able to follow along. Some concepts do get a little more complex as the book moves along. A good introduction to a very intimidating topic

This is awesome
I'm a bit of a science geek, and I have a huge interest in quantum physics, but sometimes it gets complicated and it doesn't make sense to me. This audiobook is absolutely amazing at clarifying concepts that are normally difficult to understand. There are so many areas in life where an understanding of quantum physics can be helpful, but many avoid learning about it because of its complexities. If you want to understand how our world works at a subatomic level and how that affects your life without having to be a math or science genius, I highly recommend this book. I think you'll find it educational but in an entertaining way, and I think you'll gain a really good understanding of quantum physics and how it works.

So Interesting
This book is written in a way to understand quantum physics. It was written using everyday examples showing how it connects to physics. It is well organized and very clear. Some things are hard to grasp, but that is physics. Still trying to understand objects existing in multiple states. This book was for my son in school but I wanted to read it with him to see what he was going to learn. Very interesting info and fun for us to talk about together.

surprisingly easy to understand
Physics was never my favorite subject in high school. While I found it interesting, it was always hard for me to grasp. Now that I’m in my 20s, I became a fan of an American sitcom about two physicist best friends struggling with basic social situations. That’s when I thought, why not give physics another try? Quantum Physics for Beginners 101 was the perfect audiobook to get back into it. It’s so easy to understand, even without the math, and it made the concepts enjoyable. For the first time, I’m genuinely interested in physics and excited to keep learning!
