Publisher's summary

"Narrator Susan Ericksen's performance vibrates with energy, as she portrays old and new characters in this series."—AudioFile on Desperation in Death, an Earphones Award winner.

Homicide Detective Eve Dallas hunts a killer who turns a wedding party into a murder scene in the next novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author, J.D. Robb, Passions in Death.

On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii.

Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve who once suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin.

Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began....

Not her best, but the end is good

I love all the characters but In Death series may have “jumped the shark”. I would love to see a reboot of the series.

Growing in Depth

the last couple of the books in the series have been a slower pace. But the character development is taking strides. I feel like these r building blocks of a something to come.

back to the basics

Same great flow of characters. I feel it was a stretch pointing to the killer, but JD knows how to make it work.

The entire content.

Love the way each book follows Eve and Roark's life. All the character are awesome. Have read every book in this series and was left with a smile at the end of each one. Looking forward to the next.

Not a very compelling mystery :(

As usual I’ve waited anxiously for the this next “In Death” story and I was so excited when it finally arrived but……
The narrator, Susan Erickson, was amazing as usual, and it was great hearing about all my favorite characters (kind of, in the shortest briefest way possible)…… it was just a dragging boring story line.
This wasn’t one of J.D.’s (Nora’s) better tales.
It was great that she incorporated a lesbian couple and touched, ever so lightly, on a trans woman but the story was just so lackluster.
The O.G. Characters seemed like an afterthought as did the whole actual story.
I KNOW J.D. (Nora) can do SOOOOO much better and I’ve read so many examples of her better tales!! Maybe she had a lot going on and her publisher demanded something??
It just seemed like this was the same crime Dallas’ detectives solved at the beginning of the book, so why give us the same story drawn out?
I was glad she released a book but it could have easily been a crime tucked into an ACTUAL J.D. Robb “In Death” book or a short story.
It’s a lot of money to buy books (or credits on Audible) and this one just wasn’t worth it.
Fingers crossed for the next one. (Looks like I’ll hit the library for the next book just in case….. :(

Amazing

Magnificent as usual. The intrigue and heart, some joking and some sadness. The good guys prevail and the bad guys are locked up as it should be. Always a good read from J.D.
