Publisher's summary

War may be hell, but prank wars are hell-arious.

Seventh-grader Jordan Bryant is desperate for a scoop for his year-end ELA project. When the vice principal gets glitter-bombed in front of the whole class—and the wrong student punished for the prank—Jordan thinks he’s found the perfect story. Instead, he finds himself swept up in the biggest thing to ever hit Murray Middle: the Great Prank War. As the pranks get evermore epic and insane, so do the punishments handed down by the draconian administration. Can Jordan and his wacky friends figure out who’s responsible for causing the school-wide mayhem without getting into trouble themselves? More importantly: Can they stop the madness before the trigger-happy vice principal cancels the dance?

Mutually Assured Detention is a raucous, laugh-out-loud tale of friendship and pandemonium by the author of The Dragon Squisher and Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World.

About the Creator

Scott McCormick: When he’s not flustering emus or stymying mambas, Scott McCormick enjoys annoying his children until they tell their mother. He also writes. He writes all kinds of stuff. Some of it is good. He wrote the Mr. Pants series of graphic novels. Those were good. You should totally check them out. So are the books he writes for Audible, including Rivals! Frenemies Who Changed the World, and its sequel, Rivals 2. He’s also excited about his first novel, The Dragon Squisher, which is just as funny and squishy as it sounds. Scott lives on the western edge of the easternmost part of southern North Carolina, right smack in the middle of it all.

I almost lost interest - ALMOST!

Granted, this is a middle grade book, but I found there was a moment where the story dragged for me. But then it picked up and I can honestly say I liked the ending.

great for middle schoolers!!!

This was such an awesome Audio book I kinda wish they told us to hang on to our seats! As a 7th grade my self I can safely say that even tho the cursing was flying off the hook, Scott McCormick did an A-MAZ-ING job telling this story. In fact, I would freak and go crazy happy if they made this a movie!! Best.Audiobook.EVER!!!!!!

OH MY GODS!!!

One: I LOVE THAT HES TRANS!!!!! *cough* sorry I just love it when people support

Two: the whole podcast thing was super fun!

Three: the music at the beginning and end of EVERY episode was a little bit… annoying especially seeing as it was the same music every time

Four: gotta hand it to Blake! For everything (including the dance)

Five: has a little bit of language not really good for so those of you who are super strict and like I said the main character is trans so one again not the best for strict people. There should totally be a second book about this! I love it! Byeee!!!

OMGOMGOMG!!!

I love how the story embraces LGBTQ+, and kids rights among other things. I am glad to see more and more stories with trans people and LGBTQ+. I assure you that this story WILL NOT turn anyone trans, but will only give children a larger horizon of exploration. <3

Super fun.

I love how it is written like a Podcast. Full of hijinks and pranks. This had me laughing quite often. I pretty much am a fan of Scott McCormick and anytime Audible gives me a freebie by him with my Premium Membership it is an auto download. The main character is trans and if that bugs you move on, as for me I loved the story, and the trans part is very small. There will be some people out there who don’t like the transgender part and while not my favorite part of the story as they are eight graders, it didn’t bother me. I don’t believe in teaching younger kids how to be sexually, but I don’t believe in hiding the world from them either. People are people, let them be who they will be on their own. Production was great.
