Really enjoyed this book, excited to see where the next book goes. I appreciate the author doesn't hold back on resolving plot lines when they become unnecessary.

great story it combines what i like strategy, Empire building, RPG, fantasy. the only dowside to the series is that book 5 isen't out yet.

That ending, right in the feels

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is one of those few LitRPG series that makes the best use of the genre. It's not just a great example of what LitPRG can be but explores some of the additional impacts we could see from VRMMOs combined with other future technology. I could really gush over this series, from the great characters to the diverse world, interactions between the game and the real world, and on and on. This series really does an amazing job merging LitRPG into a truly great story. Hands down one of the top series I would recommend for someone looking for great fantasy or LitRPG.

Series Continues to Deliver

Another great entry in this growing series! Overall the story of book 4 is excellent and keeps the listener engaged the entire time. The author developed the overarching story while including fun missions or quests for the MCs. Some emotional development occurs near the end as well that I would call a tear jerker. The audio again was great, there were a couple areas where skipping occurred in some of the mid chapters but its short lived and will not reappear, overall it didn't detract from the story or narration.
If you haven't picked this series up I would suggest to do so, it is quickly becoming one of the better active, litrpg stories available on Audible.

I feel this great progress

I loved this book just like the others. it's solid steady progress for the main character raytac. not to give anything. so I can't say much but need more ty and raytac moments

The story is just getting better

Well worth it for any fans of the previous books. The characters feel real and I frequently found myself seeing parallels to reality. Looking forward to the fifth and final book.

I missed this.

I missed this series. I have had my doubts about the narration and some of the writing in the past but I have been starved for good litrpg's lately. I knew I liked this series so I was glad there was a new addition. BTW I set the speed at about 1.3x-1.4x. Voraces' narration is really slow so I sped it up to more normal reading speeds. (It does get to fast when Yindis talks though)

I missed Raytak and his unique class, we don't see his type of character in other litrpg's.

Yindis is still hilarious and I really enjoy her interactions with some shady merchants.

Moderate Flaw : In chapter eight there is a gift for one of the minor characters. It is ALL description. It is SO long that I zoned out three different times. Why did you have 7 minutes of monotone monologue backstory for such an obscure item. If it was read like the actual book it might be better but it was instead read in "system's" voice which did not have any inflection at all. If the backstory about the gnomes, pirates, and necromancer (I think), were relevant to the plot I would understand. It is just all really unnecessary...

Minor Flaw : There are a few moments where there are gaps in the narration as if it had been deleted, leaving several seconds of silence.

+/- : There is more emphasis on the different characters in this book. There are whole chapters dedicated to Yindis. There are also chapters from the enemies point of view. These chapters are good when they are connected to Raytak, such as the enemy's viewpoint of his army. The chapters concerning Yindis, her party, and her battles is rather tiresome since they don't add to the overall story.

It seems almost like Yindis should have her own side book dedicated to herself, as it is now, here character feels like it is competing too much with Raytak. I enjoy Raytak's large scale battles, not Yindis and her parties.

Overall, it has a few minor flaws but they can be overlooked, this is a great Litrpg series. I highly recommend it.

Some great moments mixed with story filler

The story continues with Commander Raytak pursuing his quest to unite Hayden’s Knoll area. We get to accompany Raytak making contact with the Ikbose, a sadistic elven race, and the Goreaxe, ogres that have not gone feral like their kin in other parts of the world. These two races are well written and each have an interesting backstory, which actually connects to a hidden plot in the story. Seeing events from these races perspective was also very well done because it allows the reader to see into the mind of the races. Back in the real world is where the good story takes place, moments that may make eyes water in sadness or pride for the characters.

This does not mean the book is not without its flaws. The most prominent issue being that this part of the story feels like filler to bridge to the next book. Part of the issue is that Narbos the Grimm, the main player antagonist, is hardly present. Narbos only making an appearance at the beginning and end of the book if you don't include a short moment out of game. Even in the end we don't know what he goes through in seeking new power. It makes for a little of a disconnect between the books story and the series story, which then makes things feel like filler for the series. Raytaks events seem more like they could have been described in the background while fleshing out some of the more interesting parts, making the story feel like a required side story.

As for Jack Voraces, lets just say that I am not really a fan. His voice is great for Raytak and his legionaries, and even for most NPCs in the story. But the rest of the characters are not a good match. Especially Yendes, Raytak's teenage granddaughter that sounds more like an 80-something year old smoker for life.

Still, I would consider this a good read. Best parts of the book: Side stories, backgrounds, and alternative perspectives.
