Some superheroes want to save the world. Damian is just hoping to save himself. In the post-Break world of superpowers, necromancy is the one gift nobody wants. A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

My name is Sawyer William Vincent - I know, it sounds like three first names - but most people know me as the Red Raptor. Well, technically no one knows I'm the Red Raptor, he's just a bit more popular. Wow. Enough about my name. Let me start over. I’m a superhero - the legendary Black Harrier’s partner. Not sidekick. I don't care if I'm still in high school. We work together to bring down the city's most dangerous villains. When the Black Harrier gets a mysterious note, then goes missing in New York City, things are pretty much left up to me. But don’t worry...I’ve got this.

Publisher's summary
Eddie Marr never planned to be a supervillain, but it seemed like a surefire way to become rich and famous. All he had to do was come up with a flashy costume, a signature gimmick, and commit a couple of high profile (yet nonviolent) crimes. Eddie figured he'd eventually get caught and spend a year or two in a minimum security prison. Then he'd write a tell-all book, do the talk show circuit, and parlay that into a regular TV hosting gig.
But the best laid plans....
As the Puzzler, Eddie was strictly a C List supervillain. He matched wits with Dark Revenger, a grim and gritty, street-level superhero. Eddie always managed to get away unscathed, but one night, things go horribly wrong and the Dark Revenger is dead. It's one thing to steal the Mona Lisa. But killing a world famous superhero? That's hard time with the worst of the worst.
Most people would cash out, change their identity, and go on the run. But Eddie knows there's no running if you're responsible for the death of an A List superhero. The only chance Eddie has in staying out of prison, and staying alive, is to take the Dark Revenger's place and not let the rest of the world know the original is dead.

Story
Eighteen-year-old Aidan Salt isn't a superhero. With his powerful (and unpredictable) telekinetic abilities, he could be one if he wanted to, but he doesn't. He's unambitious, selfish, and cowardly, and he doesn't want to have to deal with all the paperwork required to become a professional superhero. But since the money, fame, and women that come with wearing the cape are appealing, he decides to become the first supervillain the world has seen in more than 20 years: Apex Strike.

Its a bit obvious where this book was going
An a-Hole finds a job as a cape, with a heart of gold, the fights are okay probably the weakness of this book. the fall in love was a bit sudden and hard to believe but the villains were good believable villians .

Amazing story
This story really amazed me. I went into it blind not knowing the author or anything about the book. I'm not even that much into superheroes.
It was just a spur of the moment purchase but once I got into the story I couldn't put it down and for once I looked forward to my daily commute.

Love it!!! To be young and foolish again
I saw the reviews of this novel and decided to write my own review. Fact, men fantasy about women 20 seconds of every minute on average. It's a realist MC that reminds me of myself between the ages of 18 - 27, just awesomer

Character growth takes time
I pretty much cringed at the MC throughout but hey, we have to start lower to have a higher finish! Effectively this is fake Batman joins fake Justice League with hints of Invincible and a double double cross/agent.
Super stuff! ;-)
Earns a place in my super hero collection. (Go listen to ”Super Powereds” if you enjoy supers!)

Frist half is kinda great!
So everything after the first half is just bleh. Our MC starts off a selfish jerk and then learns and grows and in the end becomes a true hero. Then our MC keeps being a selfish jerk. I loved the first half it was great funny and really good at pointing out the all the tropes and delivers great twists. Everything after the Time Skip is kinda dumb and feels tacked on for space. I might check out a squeal but overall it was fine a strong first half and let down second half

couldn't make it past chapter 4
Eddie. he's overly horny and excessive. i should've moved on after reading the reviews, but thought, y'know, how bad could it be? good god. if you're not open to listening to a guy literally drool over women and sex every 30secs, keep moving. I'm sure the story will get better, but this just isn't for me.

I like the premise not the story.
I couldn't get past the first couple hours. super advanced ai tech, some of the best heroes on the planet. Only the non super knew. Does nothing about, falls for him from the beginning.

Surprised me
I saw this and got it when I had a surplus of credits and it seemed mildy interesting. It actually turned out to be a pretty great superhero book, and I say that having read many and found them wanting. I thought it was going to be derivative and corny, but it grew on me with each chapter.

Mixed bag.
Good story and setting. Protagonist vacillates between cool/witty, and cringe and tiringly horny. Good narrator though.

Rough Start, Smooth Landing
I stopped reading this book one chapter in because I really disliked the main character. He's obnoxiously narcissistic and just incredibly annoying. But I had bought the book so I went back to it and forced myself to give it a second chance. I'm glad I did. The character remains incredibly annoying until he finally starts maturing toward the end of the book, but pushing that problem to the side, this is a very good superhero story and there were a lot of surprises that actually surprised me—and a surprise the author convinced me I was wrong about before springing it again. The villain is also a lot of fun, and the heroes get to be suitably heroic.
The plot revolves around the Puzzler, a two-bit fake villain trying to set himself up for a talk show on TV and million-dollar bestseller book who accidentally gets into a situation where he kills the famous superhero, the Dark Revenger. This isn't the sort of crime he feels he can successfully walk away from, so he decides to impersonate the Dark Revenger instead and become a crime fighting superhero to keep himself out of jail. The problem is that a world threatening crisis is about to break and the real heroes come to Dark Revenger seeking his help.
There is a lot of action in the novel, and the mystery surrounding how the Puzzler came to kill the Dark Revenger is a good one. I thought the author was going to crash and blow it in the end, but he actually brought the story to a smooth landing.
