such a good book

I already read this book when it came out, I just wanted to post an audible review as well
if you like characters who do grow, just not how you would expect, this is the story for you. the main character is intelligent cocky sometimes it does bite him in the butt. overall I'd give this story a 10 out of 10 performances and what I had in my head when I was reading it but find me a book that does that, I love the story.

This is a great 1st book!!!

The MC is more pragmatic and less idealistic than most MCs in this genre ...but almost too much, like intentionally written to have a borderline psychosis that comes across really well. Like he's an unpredictable character, which makes him interesting.
I liked a lot of choices made by the author, he definitely had some original ideas. I especially like the direction he went with mana manipulation abilities ...very cool stuff.
That said the story felt a little thin. I think outside of the MC's progression there is not much story to sink ur teeth into.
The narrator did a good job, but whether it was his style or just the source material there were times when he got a little monotone.
Regardless, I enjoyed the book and I think I'll check out book 2 whenever that comes out.
It's well worth the credit ;)

Good listen

I liked it. I’d put it in the same category as primal hunter and HWFWM. MC is a severe introvert and can really hold a grudge. He’s also a min maxer dumping stats in mana and the story does progress through this dungeon like tutorial. It says hell difficulty but for the MC it’s more of a stroll compared to the other characters.

It’s a fantastic start

First half of the book the MC is very unlikeable from a human perspective. He is a solid MC though
Second half of the book he doesn’t soften but is more in control of his self I would say. Really pleased I picked this one up

A bit generic

The story was a bit generic, but still entertaining. Reader did a good job in this.

interesting start

Enjoyable and engaging story/plot. Good amount of action and World overview. Great take on the tutorial troupe that you see, while the mc isn't the typical hero, he's not an anti hero either.

Pros:
plot line and story development
character progression
engaging narration

Cons:
Mc does mental jumps and though like a ADHD kid on sugar.
Characters don't really get flushed out enough to make them engaging.
Mc's state choices are questionable. (even the character releases this but doesn't attempt to fix it at all.)

Terrible protagonist

I have never hated a protagonist so much in all my reading and listening to books. In this genre, you have a lot of authors who try to make these defiant, powerful, anti-normative character types. That sometimes drags the story down. But overall, the story usually overcomes the protagonist's flaws. This one, on the other hand, does not. It fails miserably. It's one of the hardest listens I've had to endure in my life. The performer does a great job. It's just the story that sucks.

Really fun journey with a non-cookie main character

Don't usually write reviews, but saw this book on Reddit and picked it up since I wanted another lit RPG. While the main character is on a bit of the edgy side, I think the author wrote them really well and it made for an interesting start to a series. very much looking forward to more from this series going forward!
