Publisher's summary

The war has begun. Both sides demand Diem's allegiance—or her death.

After her disastrous coronation, Diem finds herself at the center of the conflict between the Descended and the Guardians. With her newfound friends and the man she's falling for on one side, and the mortals she has vowed to protect on the other, Diem must walk a careful line to save the people she loves…even from each other.

The mystery of her unusual heritage begins to unravel, sending Diem and Luther on an unexpected journey across the realms. The answers may hold the key to winning the war, but finding them will require her to face painful truths about her mother, her bloodline, and her fate.

Meanwhile, the Crowns have set Diem in their sights. Some could be her greatest allies—while others want her dead. To end their oppressive reign, Diem must sort friend from foe and risk it all to build an army of her own.

But a powerful figure in the north has plans that could change everything...

Heat of the Everflame is the third book in The Kindred's Curse Saga, a four-book epic fantasy romance series that follows our feisty, bad*ss heroine Diem Bellator in her fight against injustice, her struggle to survive in a royal palace full of betrayal and intrigue, and her journey of self-discovery and finding true love.

This slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers series is perfect for fans of unique magic systems, dragons and other mythical creatures, angst and romantic tension, and hilarious banter. This series will appeal to fans of plot-heavy, character-driven romantasy such as A Court of Thorns and Roses, Throne of Glass, Blood and Ash, The Plated Prisoner, Grisha, and Crowns of Nyaxia.

WHAT?!

Absolutely loved this book! I have to admit our FMC was a little frustrating when ignoring or not realizing what was right in front of her face regarding one particular circumstance (iykyk). That aside, I have loved the world building, magic and characters in the series. Cannot And I can't stress this enough, CANNOT wait for Burn of the Everflame. Eagerly, anxiously, throwing up (lol) awaiting its release!

So EPIC!

I love this series. Do I wish for more spice? Yes I do!…. But what’s there is so well written and doesn’t trash the book up. My only issue is that I have to wait now. How could she leave us so perilously on a cliff and just end the book! I’m hanging here!!

SCREAMING

I can't believe I have to wait at least a whole year to hear the next book. If you want a "romantasy" that is actually more focused on the plot than the romance, this is great. There are enough familiar elements that the world-building isn't overwhelming but done in a way that feels distinct to this series. I love the FMC, mostly because she LIVES in denial - I mean absolutely DWELLS there - and it is INFURIATING. The MLI is pretty generic, nothing to go all "book boyfriend" over. But that's okay because I'm not really here for the love story. If you are, this entire series is a slow burn, enemies(?) to lovers, fated mates, and dark (but not really) romance.

This book had me going through it. I honestly don't see how Cole could possibly wrap this up in just one more book without cramming it all in.

Unexpected twists and turns

This has quickly become one of the of my favorite book series! It’s a rival to Fourth wing, ACOTAR, and FBAA

Diem again is so frustrating..

Too many secrets so much would be prevented if the inner circle worked together and shared everything. Also her mom (leader of the guardians) angered me, I was so bothered Diem did not stand for Luther. He would never stand for anyone bad mouthing her, no matter what. Made me read ahead past those parts. 😮‍💨 I WAS ALSO HOPING FOR A LITTLE SPICE, very disappointed 😭

The fact that I liked it so much but want the fourth book NOW!&

The consistency of the realms and the characters. The narration is effective and appropriate. Interesting interaction between characters over time.

Didn’t Feel As Long As It Is lol

Honestly, it would probably be best to review this part by part— but, I’ll try to combine for convenience. Overall, I would probably rate this more of a 4.75. Simply because I didn’t think it was (as a whole) quite as good as the previous two, though certain parts WERE better than the previous two. Man, the book didn’t feel as long as it was. It did keep my interest and there were a lot of twists. Some predictable, others very much not predictable (for me, at least 😅). Some ideas where the story could be going, none of them probably right. I can’t wait for the next release!
