Acerca de esta escucha

New York Times bestseller John Scalzi flies you to the moon with his most fantastic tale to date: When the Moon Hits Your Eye

The moon has turned into cheese.

Now humanity has to deal with it.

For some it’s an opportunity. For others it’s a moment to question their faith: In God, in science, in everything. Still others try to keep the world running in the face of absurdity and uncertainty. And then there are the billions looking to the sky and wondering how a thing that was always just there is now... something absolutely impossible.

Astronauts and billionaires, comedians and bank executives, professors and presidents, teenagers and terminal patients at the end of their lives -- over the length of an entire lunar cycle, each get their moment in the moonlight. To panic, to plan, to wonder and to pray, to laugh and to grieve. All in a kaleidoscopic novel that goes all the places you’d expect, and then to so many places you wouldn’t.

It’s a wild moonage daydream. Ride this rocket.

Listen to the moon and back
Between conference calls and car-pool pickups, my days are more chaotic than ever—and there is absolutely nothing that allows me to escape my daily life as entertainingly as a new John Scalzi audiobook. The thoughtful blend of humor and heart had me laughing out loud and smiling from ear to ear, from start to finish. The unique combination of Scalzi’s brilliant and witty storytelling and Wil Wheaton’s incredible narration is science fiction at its finest. Whether you’ve ever wondered how you’d react if the moon turned into cheese or not, this production will entertain, delight and inspire you. —Esther B., Audible Editor

The dialogue is funny b/c the premise is funny. The premise is actually 4 stars of funny. But after a few hours of WTAF Cheese! It gets stale (pun).

This time Scalzi missed the mark-

Interesting premise that FAR overstays its welcome. This probably should have been about half as long. After the silliness has passed it's one maudlin existential crisis after another. Exhausting.

Sorry, Mr. Scalzi -- I love so very many of your stories but this one is a miss.

Middling Scalzi

Will wheaton and scalzi are usually a recipe for an incredible book. kaiju, starter, agent... but this book, it wasn't funny, it wasn't sad, it just was.

I say this as a longtime Heinlein fan. i can always spot the work of the master within a paragraph or two. This has led to some rather DEP digs to find his more obscure works.

I now find I can spot one of Mr. Scalzi's works within a paragraph. He has a style that stands out to me. I now find myself going after his works as soon as they come out.

This book had some standard Scalzi devices. It also had an almost unholy disregard for suspension of disbelief. Yet I found myself suspending for all I was worth. It's just that good.

I look forward to reading the book now, savoring every word. I'll be patient and go back over the more delicious parts at my leisure.

Thank you, Mr. Scalzi for feeding my addiction yet again.

Another Scalzi

I generally love Scalzi’s books and listen to them as I quilt. This one was not a favorite. Even so, it was an interesting listen and I will definitely listen to his next book. I loved Starter Villain but that had a much less weird premiss. I just couldn’t wrap my head around how, in this or any universe, the moon could turn to cheese. As I listened to each day’s vignette of different characters reacting and dealing with the event, my mind kept wandering, trying to figure out the author’s underlying message. Given the current political nightmare that those of us who have not been brainwashed know it to be, I wondered if the plot of this book could be compared in some way to the lies we are told and acted upon every day. Could our current reality be just as weird as if the moon turned to cheese? I kinda think so.

What a weird premiss that kinda relates to the weird reality we’re currently living in

As usual with Scalzi, this book has some cool science and a lot of heart wrapped up in the dumbest story imaginable. Never change, Scalzi! I love it.

Scalzi is a Silly Goose

Like or a lot of Scalzi’s book, this book is just fun. The story is out there but it sort of plays second fiddle to people we encounter on each day. It’s touching and goofy and a commentary on our times when people will not believe what they see with their own eyes.

Just fun.

John Scalzi’s When the Moon Hits your Eye is a light hearted, but scientifically accurate tale where the moon is suddenly and mysteriously transformed into cheese. There are no aliens, rather the focus is on a wide variety of people and their reactions to this event. All the action takes place within one month, including a ‘bait and switch’ testing of a prototype lunar landing module the billionaire who owns the company that built the lander, hijacks the module to attempt to be the first to walk on the cheesy moon. Eventually, activity on the moon threatens Earth.

While offered as a fanciful, fun story, Scalzi nevertheless injects quite a bit of hard science, such as the moon expanding its diameter due to density differences. All the appropriate astronomical minutiae are faithfully executed. The story ends with future commentary on the whole affair.

The narration is superb with excellent character distinction. Pacing is smooth and a tad brisk.

A bit cheesy

If you like Scalzi, you'll like this. It's funny and heartfelt and all that good stuff. Wil Wheaton is an excellent narrator, as always. One thing to note is that this is more like a collection of short stories centered around the idea of "what would different kinds of people think/do if the moon turned to cheese" than it is a novel. A few characters recur, but most are in it for only one chapter, so there isn't a lot of deep character development.

Fun "what if" book

I have never been disapointed when ready a Scalzi book. This is no exception! It gets dark (when the sky is bright) and there where many sceens that made me reflect on my everyday life and what's happening now in the world. But Scalzi pulled the pices togeather in the end.

Another good one
