About this listen

A Friends-to-Lovers, Small Town Romance

Whoever said you can't come home again, wasn't in love with Nate Dawson.

Is a chance at the love she's always dreamed of enough to make her stay?

Nearly two decades after she left Halfway, Nebraska, Audrey Porter returns to the small town she once called home following the death of her beloved grandmother. With Nana gone, she must protect the family farm from her opportunistic mother. It isn't long before she is reminded of all the reasons she moved away. Though she no longer lets the small-town gossips bother her, ignoring the rekindled feelings she has for her teenage crush proves more difficult.

For the last 20 years, Nate Dawson has been the hometown hero. High school football star, cattle ranching royalty, and now the county sheriff, he is admired, desired, and respected. But beneath his controlled, no-nonsense exterior is the tender heart of a young man who never forgot the girl who got away. With Audrey finally within reach, the smitten sheriff is determined not to waste his second chance.

As Audrey works through her grief, battles her mother in court, and wrestles with the decision to keep or sell the farm, Nate refuses to let her push him away. Will surrendering to the love she has always wanted bring Audrey home for good?

Publisher's Note: Halfway Home is an angsty, slow burn, friends-to-lovers, small-town romance with enough steam and intrigue to keep you listening late into the night. Originally released as a novella in the no longer available Cowboys for a Cause anthology, it has been revised and more than doubled in length to make a return trip worth your while.

I could not stop listening! Beautiful and perfect!

Audrey Porter and Nate Dawson, they’ve known each other since they were toddlers. As they grew, the way they saw each other … changed. When it came time for college they went their separate ways, but the feelings, THOSE feelings, those unspoken, unshared feelings ,,, they never left. Now, years later, a family tragedy forces Audrey back home, back to where Nate is now the Sheriff … and this time, he’s not about to let Audrey get away! Slow burning angsty goodness meets fist pumping courtroom drama in “Halfway Home” a beautifully written second chance romance that had ALL my cylinders firing! Without giving too much away, the characters are the stars of the show in “Halfway Home”. When I say they span the full spectrum of likability, I am not exaggerating! I fell absolutely in love with quite a few of them and long for their stories in future books. There were others that were decidedly unlikable and a few that really ticked me off, which as crazy as it might sound, was really a stroke of brilliant writing as it served to drive the plot perfectly in the authors intended direction! I can’t give details, that would be playing spoiler, but know that the plot is fabulous, the flow is smooth, and everything makes sense! As far as heat level, yes it is a slow burn, but when it gets there, wow, so beautifully done and well worth waiting for! The other shining star in this one is the narration! The characters are beautifully and consistently voiced throughout with impeccable timing and intonation! I love that the distinctive vocal choices so perfectly suited each character! I really enjoyed everything about “Halfway Home” and look forward more in this series. Five fulfilling stars!
