Publisher's summary

One woman learns the secrets of the five Jaeger brothers in the new romance from New York Times bestselling author Penelope Douglas.

On the other side of town, in the dark glades, under the rain…

Macon is the oldest. Thirty-one. Ex-Marine. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him smile.

Army is twenty-eight. A single dad with the most beautiful green eyes. He has no idea who he is, if not a Jaeger brother.

Iron will be in prison soon. You’d never think it to meet him. He’s a nice guy, actually. But he can’t stop reacting to everything.

Dallas is the one I hate. Twenty-one, cruel, and selfish. He takes and then throws away whatever’s left.

And Trace is mine. Or he was for about two seconds. No one can tame him for long.

Not that I ever wanted to. It was fun, but now I need to go home. Back to my side of the tracks. Away from the swamps and these men. To my parents’ big house. On my clean street. Where I’m never dirty or messy or hot. And I will. I’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning. I just want to crash on the couch tonight.

Their house is dark and quiet, everyone else is asleep. Except for one. He sees me crying and comes at me from behind. I let him wrap his arms around my body and hold me tightly. His breath is on my neck, his fingers are in my hair, and he doesn’t stop there.

I don’t think it was Trace.

Fantastic Story. Stellar Narration. A Must Listen!

This is one messy family with questionable brothers who definitely ride that morally gray line. Although the title implies that it’s about five brothers, it’s not a why choose book, so if that’s what you’re looking for, this isn’t it. But it is such an addictive listen. The majority of the first half of the book is from Krisjen’s POV, and what a complex woman she is. From the “right” side of the tracks, but drawn to the “wrong” side, she just can’t help spending time with the Jaegers.

Get ready for motorbike rides, kisses in the rain, pool parties, a thrilling version of strip tag, bed-hopping, prison, kids, mental health rep, dark themes and spicy times, and so much more. Even though I was daunted by the almost sixteen-hour length of this puppy at the start, I shouldn’t have worried. I should have trusted that Penelope would deliver the goods. AND SHE BROUGHT IT!

And the narration was amazing. I haven’t listened to Abby much before, but you bet, I’ll be keeping an eye out for titles narrated by her moving forward. She smashed it. Vulnerable, sassy, emotional, and just flippin’ brilliant! Each of the guys delivered in their chapters too and a little bonus scene from Dallas at the end was a nice touch. The guys for sure elevated this story, but it was Abby who was the star of the show here.

I’m not gonna tell you anything more about it, just that you need it in your life. It is shooting straight into my highlights for 2024.

Phenomenal

Absolutely love this book. From start to finish I was hooked. I would love to read more on the other brothers (Dallas, Srmy, Iron and Trace) and see them get their HEA

I loved this book!

Penelope Douglas does it again. I just loved the story & ending. I love the characters, the angst and love each brother has for Krisjen.

Great story

I love all the narrators and they all did a great job with both male and female voices however a true multi cast production would have taken it to a whole other level.

A FREAKING TEN!!

Let me just say I had high hopes for this book & per usual, Penelope Douglas blew them out of the water. Using different voice actors for the Jaeger brothers was top tier!! It was awesome to hear each of the five guys’ perspective throughout the story & well as some of their personal stories and the family history. Heavy on the spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ So nice, you’ll want to read it twice!

A fun listen

I really liked that the characters were brought to life. The Narrators did an amazing job giving each character their emotions. It almost made it feel as if the character was real. It wasn’t monotone. I think they all played their part very well and I enjoyed this audiobook a lot.

Amazing story

PENELOPE DOUGLAS DID HER BIG ONE! This was a 5/5 for me. I loved the book from beginning to end! Macon is my absolute favorite character. I didn’t want it to end.

Guilty pleasure

I’d definitely mark this up as a guilty pleasure but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it in a simplistic way. It makes for some good easy distraction from your own life. Like one of those movies that don’t require a lot of brain cells and works as pure entertainment. I did like the depth of the characters and the way the story doesn’t conform to normal society expectations. It’s nice to dream of a world where a woman could be free to explore herself in this way. We do not live in that world.

Loved the brothers

Overall it was a good listen. Liked the story of the brothers the most. Couldn’t quite get the pull the main character was supposed to have on them. She was just kind of blah and was hoping for more out of her character. She seemed like a lost puppy the whole time with very little self worth which I guess was part of the point. She was broken and so was her final love interest. What I can’t stand though is the sudden bad ass attitude followed by the lost, easily manipulated puppy who can’t put two and two together then back to badass attitude and so on. Again, loved the brothers. Should do a separate book/story on each of them. Maybe except for Macon because we know his future now which again I just don’t get the attraction but that’s just me apparently!

There has to be more!!

Loved it. Funny, sexy, spicy, painful. Also, I don’t like Army. Like AT ALL. Wish these audiobooks would come with background music because PD has great taste in music. Imagine hearing Chromatics playing in the background in that scene. Ugh. Loved it all. Need more
