About this listen

Contains books 3 and 4 of Condemning the Heavens.

Stars Are Falling, book 3

In the continent of Chang'an, humans had lived as livestock and slaves to the primordial beasts. These beasts were ferocious, bloodthirsty, and overwhelmingly powerful, but even so, the humans managed to prevail in the face of despair. As the human race grew stronger the primordial beasts fought back with relentless fierceness, rousing beast hordes to engage in frenzied battles over the land. Every single child on the continent was taught martial arts for the sake of fighting these primordial beasts, yet many of them were sent straight to their death.

In this world filled with constant battle, a young boy was born. This young boy was hoping to become the most outstanding cultivator, but who would have thought that his talent was so poor that he could not even cultivate? As the boy was filled with despair over his unfortunate situation, a life-changing event occurred which would forever leave a scar in his mind, pushing him to transcend his limits and grow to become a legend.

Tears of the Soaring Dragon, book 4

Parting with Jiang Fengmian and the Vermilion Forest Kingdom, Xue Wei and Hei Gou continue their journey towards the center of the continent. On their way, they encounter the Black Iron Fortress, an imposing citadel hosting a high-stakes tournament which could change their lives - or end it. Allured by the chance to grow stronger and gain precious resources, both man and beast halt their march towards the center of the continent to participate in the deadly tournament. But just who is behind it all?

Mortal danger, hidden treasure, and a bittersweet reunion await Xue Wei and Hei Guo in the Skyward Empire as secrets start to unravel and the truth is laid bare for all to see.

A marked improvement

While not without its flaws, the rest of the series (starting with this book) improves greatly over the initial offering. The quality of the translation has improved, and the writing slowly gets better as the series progresses.

It does suffer from a lack of editing, however, beyond simple misused and dropped words. There are several storyline coherence issues as the series progresses. Overall, it's worth reading.

a little better

I'm dropping this series.

it has gotten better but not by much. it's giving more light on things but it's mono-toned and just an op mc with now a side kick.

addictive mess

Let’s start with the bad...
Character dialogue is poor
MC has no/very few redeeming qualities - kill and/or rob everyone for ....reasons.
Words and lines are repeated, constantly
Narration is poor. One of the voices sounded like John Wayne and I’m pretty sure Rob Ruggle narrated some of it. Basically it’s not a speech pattern i would associate with wuxia/xianxia.

The good
Call it a guilty pleasure but i found the story to be addicting. I believe it’s because the MC feels no remorse for anything. Would I recommend it? Probably but I would absolutely feel the need to share my complete impression vs just saying yes.
MC is OP so there is never any pressure or stress listening to the story. I don’t usually like this but it does make for a relaxing listening experience.

Loved it

Loved this book, and the ones that came before it. The author isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, I feel that’s what’s wrong with many authors now. Everyone wants to play it safe and every character is a goody two shoes. Hope he doesn’t change his style.

Continues to be a good read, even if a bit bloody

I waited awhile to pick up this second “set” because of the casual amount of violence and bloody descriptions. However, I have liked the characters so much that I wanted to see what happened to them, so I recently purchased it and loved getting reacquainted with the main character and was immediately attached to most of the new characters.
Good Read. On to the next one…

gonna need 5 and 6 soon bruh

wow was that a good listen. Performance and story are great! I gave it a 4 star over all because there was alot of, "and his bloody body was bloody and dead and covered in blood" type sentences. other than that I loved it.
