Publisher's summary

The last thing Los Angeles needed was a high-tech, ex-assassin from another world setting up shop as a private detective. They got one anyway, in the form of Justin Case, a smart-ass killing machine looking for a little redemption. When one of Case's closest friends turns up dead, the alien detective and his predatory partner Magdelain track down an Italian mobster secretly hammering L.A. with a new designer drug. Case must call in favors from a bare-knuckles brawler tied to the Russian mob and a hot-bodied sniper who makes a mean cappuccino. Before the end, he'll even put the love of his life in harm's way and risk everything by revealing his greatest secret.

Justin Case is awesome

I'm not great at reviews but I loved this book and am excited for the rest of the trilogy. The pacing was great, the jokes were well timed and the character development felt good.

The narrator did a great job, if you like the voice of David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid games), then you will enjoy Bryan Patrick Jones.

I highly recommend this book if you like light-hearted fun and some gratuitous violence.

Very fun Sci-fi noir novel.

I was given a free copy of this book in return for an honest review. I have to say that by the time I was half way through this book I was already excited about getting to write this review.

Chemical Burn is an incredibly fun Sci-fi noir story set in a world where an alien works as a private eye taking on gangsters and mobsters. Justin Case is a very likeable protagonist. Some one has killed Justin's best friend and in his hunt to find the killer he discovers that the Russians and Italians are working together on something that will put Justin and all his closest friends in danger. He uses a combination of natural born skill and creative alien technology to systematically and violently take apart the two Mob organizations.

The narration for the book was great. The reader did a phenomenal job of pulling me into the story and keeping me there. His voice work for the different characters was consistent and each character was easily identifiable. The pacing was just right and the reader did a good job with setting the tone of each scene. I look forward to more work from this author and the narrator.

My new Hero!

Justin Case is the new great PI with other worldly abilities. While bullets are flying all around him and he and friend are making escape she offer He is a gun. His reply is, he does not use guns, he does not like them. He then proceeds to take out approximately 4 men by frying them!

He is as smooth as 007 without all the wanton sex. He has a cadre of friends whose loyalty is unwavering. These friends are talent people in the extreme sports fashion. You get action and gore. The uniqueness of Case should be experienced by all PI fans with a perchance for something unusual.

I will not give away anything. My only disappointment… it ends with a cliffhanger.

Easy listen (AND QUASI SPOILER ALERT)

Any additional comments?

The plot is fairly predictable (except for the threesome scene that I found unnecessary and abrupt; but the author is a man, so ... good for him for working that in, I guess, and luckily for my prudish ears there was only that one scene). Still, it was a decent story to listen to once you get past everything about Justin being perfect now that he's changed his mission. I don't love the narrator's voice. It annoyed me at first as it doesn't immediately match Justin to me, although given his nature as a being who was created to kill, I suppose the Zen calm does kind of make sense. And I didn't enjoy the way the narrator laughed when the author wrote the characters were laughing. That made it kind of corny. I do wish there was more explanation about how or why Justin ended up on earth - if that was covered, I missed it.So given how much I didn't like about the book, why the four stars for story and overall? Good character development and the narrator does accents fairly well. The character interactions were interesting enough to hold my attention.

All in all, I would listen to another of the author's books.
