About this listen

Buckle up for an edge-of-your seat trek through the dangerous jungles of the Philippines in this enemies to lovers, forced proximity, alpha hero, sunshine versus grumpy romantic thriller!

When Rio Silva is told her aunt and uncle are missing in a Philippine rainforest, she knows there is only one answer to finding them: the retired military working dog her dad entrusted to her. Chaos, however, has a mind of her own, a lot like Rio. Worse, she’ll have to trust arrogant and bossy former Army Ranger, Cathal McGowan if she hopes to get them back. The last thing Cathal McGowan needs is to be shackled with a young, pretty teacher with no combat experience as he leads them into the dark heart of the rainforest. But she has heart—he’ll give her that. And he has the experience she needs to rescue her family. Putting everything on the line, Rio and Cathal struggle to navigate the terrain, as well as their emerging feelings for each other. But the closer they get to mission success, the more things aren’t adding up, including who might be behind the disappearance. It’s not long before they realize the rainforest holds greater perils than deadly vipers...and the biggest danger of all might be their hearts.

The second electrifying novel in Sunrise Publishing's A Breed Apart: Legacy by bestselling, award-winning author Ronie Kendig and newcomer Steffani Webb.

My favorite of all the Breed Apart books so far

I think the readers did a good job. I enjoyed the Irish accent, though I don’t know enough to decide if it is authentic or not. Both readers sounded fine to me, though the female reader did not do well on the make Irish accent. Perhaps it would have been better to have just the male reader, but in truth, the woman doesn’t have that many lines to read in the Irishman’s accent anyway. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment.

I enjoyed the characters in this book and found the motivations for their mood and behavior more relatable and interesting than characters in the previous books. The jungle setting for this story provided a different theater for the main conflict which in turn made the book less predictable. The damaged & lost phone was, however, definitely a repeat from previous books.

This book avoided some of the things I did not care for in the other books, too much romance, larger than life know all super villains, protagonists who hate themselves or blame themselves for things obviously outside of their control. There was a bit of that last in the book, but it was dealt with in a helpful way and earlier in this book than in others. Finally, I liked hearing from characters in the preceding books. I wish I heard a little more about them, in fact.

Ugg! So disappointed with the narrators.

I tried to listen a few times and could not get over the mismatched narrators in this book. They ruined the story. I will opt to read this book rather than listen to it. It's so sad. . . :( This will be the third book out of several years of listening that I will be returning. Good narration for GREAT books is a MUST.

Narrators Ruined the Story

I so enjoyed the first book in this series! The narrator of that book fit the storyline. Why the narrator changed to the two narrators for this book is beyond me. The man’s voice made the main male character sound too old and the female voice made the main female character sound like a total brat. I’m only 1/3 through the book and want to try to finish it because I do enjoy this author quite a bit! But, the narrators are so annoying that it takes away from the story.
