Publisher's summary

Nils Shapiro has been hired to find missing Linnea Engstrom, a teenager from the small northern hockey town of Warroad, Minnestota. Most of Warroad is in Minneapolis for the state high school hockey tournament, and Linnea never returned from last night's game. Linnea's friend Haley Housch is also missing - and soon found dead.

Shot through the arm with an arrow at the Haley Housch crime scene, Nils should be in the hospital recovering from his near fatal injury, but he knows that the clock is ticking. Linnea could be anywhere, and someone doesn't want her found. Is Linnea a victim, or is she playing a dangerous game? As bodies start piling up, the clues lead Nils and Ellegaard north to Warroad, a small, quiet town with many secrets to hide.

Did it again, but better!

I loved Gone to Dust. Which is why I read Broken Ice. Macleod Andrews is THE BEST narrator I've ever listened to. I wish I could just hire him to read all the audio books I buy. I've searched for more books he's read just because I love him ..

Anyway, Broken Ice is great. Matt Goldman delivered another wonderful murder mystery. I like that the story has twists and turns, but they're not far fetched. Everything is tied so well together in the ending.

I personally think it's a master piece. I really hope there is more to come in Nils Shapiro's adventures being a PI! (please, please please write more!)

2nd 5-star book in a 5-star series

The Greg Iles of Minnesota! Matt Goldman writes with an authenticity that only comes with first-hand knowledge - not only of place, but also of culture and personal experience. His well-crafted descriptions and deft turns of phrases left me smiling, even when his protagonist was in his frequent tight spots.

A real joy to read.

Cities pronounced wrong

The city names Warroad and Pembina were pronounced wrong. As someone who grew up in NE North Dakota it almost drove me crazy enough to quit listening to the book. The emphasis in Warroad is on the first part of the word "WAR-road". Pembina is "PEM-bina" with a short i. The last part of the word sounds like BIN instead of BEAN.

Minnesota Town Names

As nearly a lifelong Minnesotan the mispronounced town names were extremely hard to listen to, I could have overlooked it if it didn’t happen over & over again. The storylines were solid so overall the book was enjoyable.

Very good

MacLeod Andrews brings the characters to life. The story is good, even if the motive was a bit of a stretch. Keep them coming Matt!

Consult with locals to learn place names!

overall a good story; however as a minnesotan, the reader's mispronunciation of place names made me crazy.

Good story

After listening to the first book, and being familiar with all the places, I looked forward to this one, and I really liked it. However, every time the narrator mispronounced Wayzata and Warroad I had to correct him, and that’s exhausting. I would have preferred that he’d done his homework.

Great books!

I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. I like to laugh when I read and to be able to smile to break the tension of the crimes is something I look for in books. Characters narrated wonderfully.

didn't pronounce the local cities correctly

Wayzata and Warroad pronounced wrong. Should work on this with the one reading the novel.
