About this listen

You wake up to find the man beside you is dead. He is not your husband. This is not your bed.

Tara Logan adores her perfect little family: husband, Noah, and two children, teenager Rosie and 11-year-old Spencer. But her happiness is shattered when she wakes in her neighbour Lee Jacobs' bed, with no memory of how she got there or what happened between them. And worse - he has been stabbed to death.

Convinced she didn't kill Lee, Tara flees home and stays silent, holding her breath as the investigation grips the neighbourhood. But as her daughter spirals out of control and her husband becomes increasingly distant, Tara starts to wonder if someone in her own life knows what really happened that night. And when the police turn their questions towards her, Tara realises she has to find out.

But what will it take to uncover the real story, and can she survive the truth? A gripping, shocking psychological thriller, with a twist that will take you by surprise.

Critic reviews

"A hell of a ride. By the time I reached the nail-biting conclusion I was a nervous wreck, the ending has left me speechless...one of my top reads of 2016. Five stars out of five from me. (I would rate it higher if I could)." ( The Book Review Cafe)

Easy to follow

This book was easy to listen to. Not complicated, over descriptive language. The book flowed nicely.
The story itself was ok. Nothing fantastic but enjoyable. I enjoy a story that sticks to plot instead of endless pages describing scenery. So for me, the writing style made it a win.

Who Could Have Murdered Lee?

What made the experience of listening to While You Were Sleeping the most enjoyable?

It is full of suspense from the beginning to the end being a Classic Mystery.

What other book might you compare While You Were Sleeping to and why?

It can stand side by side with all great books that can be thought of.

What does Julie Maisey bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The detectives' investigations were not all that pronounced.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Still While You Were Sleeping".

Any additional comments?

A case of murder! Tara was actually sleeping when Lee Jacob was murdered. Who could have committed this grave offense? Could it be Tara,Noah, Rosie, Spencer, Serena, or was it a suicide? Could it be Michy, Leyla, or Lisa? It was a surprise who the convict was! Find out in this crime novel what really happened at the end of the day.

Interesting

A good twist is something that you don't see coming, but when it presents itself you're like oh man, that makes sense. The twist for this, while believable, felt forced and kind of just for shock. Also found the main character a bit whiny. I by no means hated it, just thought it could use some improvements.

"This just keeps getting worse"

The quote above was not supposed to be about the book but I couldn't help thinking the author was reading my mind. When Tara further comments, "I can't listen to this anymore. I just want to run away", I was convinced the author knew what my feelings about the story were going to be! The wrap-up was completely nonsensical! Frankly, the writing was amateur at best. While some stories get tied up too neatly with a bow, Kathryn Croft has managed to do the opposite. Its a hot mess.
Note: Julie Maisey's narration was pretty good.

Turns At Nearly Every Page

I got this almost immediately after reading her first book (The Girl With No Past). I'd say they each stood up well on their own, and Ms. Croft is already on her way to being a memorable thriller writer. I always love listening to British narrators, but this one was a bit whiny for me,distracting in parts. Overall though, absolutely worth the read!!!

Never guessed the ending

This book will have your head spinning with all the possibilities. A true “who done it”. Simply fantastic. And once you think you have it all figured out, the ending knocks you off your feet.

Don't miss this book

I had this book on my wish list for a while, but couldn't work up the enthusiasm to buy it based on the summary. When it came on 2 for 1 sale I had a closer look at the reviews and bought it.

Glad I did! It's a really well told tale, weaving new snippets in throughout. Great book. I will get more of this author.

Great book, consumed my every waking moment! Lots of twists and turns! Very few books stump me. I was wrong the entire book in who killed Lee!! Wow! Great writing!
