Awesome adventure! Good character development.

What I like about this series is that it isn't just one person's story, it tells the story of the entire Nelson family. Each family member showed significant character growth throughout the course of the novel.

Before this book, I wasn't a fan of Emily. She's still kind of frustrating, but I find myself identifying more with her character. While Dave is focused on becoming stronger so he can defend his family and become a strong ruler, Emily holds onto her belief in Democracy and individual freedom (often in direct conflict with Elorian culture). I like the fact that Dave and Emily are both able to rule together despite having diametrically opposed ideals.

I also like that she's become more accepting of the fact that Eloria functions according to game rules. It seemed like she was in denial about that before and taking it out on Dave. I'm glad she seems to have moved past that.

My favorite character in this book was Jackson, who becomes the target of bullying and racial bigotry while at school. I hope to see more of him in the next book.

Sara has quite a bit of growth as well. She's an interesting character because she's almost completely pacifistic. She hates violence and solves her problems by using the power of friendship, which makes her unique in the LitRPG genre.

I'm not as much a fan of Mira. Not as much attention was given to her and I find it hard to get into her head. Her class is interesting, at least. Hopefully, she'll get more attention in future novels.

I listened to the audiobook, and the narration by Peter Berkrot was top notch as always. He has an interesting accent and uses different voices for each of the characters to make them sound distinct.

I enjoyed this LitRPG and fully recommend it.

Awesome series!!!

Slow start getting into it the series but totally worth it. Development of good guys, bad guys, story and story arch’s. Awesome LitRPG. Great writing for non litRPG’s as well. My wife even enjoyed listening to it even though this genre is not her style. A real world builder with a lot of unexpected turns!!! The first book was building up to this one. I can’t wait for the next one!!!

Wet well written with great story and advancements. Still HATE Emily.

The storyline is still very interesting to follow. The books are definitely character driven which I enjoy. The classes and system is unique and well done. Every book in this series gets better and better. I’d highly recommend.

That being said, there are some minor problems. Like a lot of people, I HATE Emily. She’s an idealist and can’t adapt to the new world. She keeps trying to force her values on others and belittles those that disagree. Worse, she blames Dave and blows up on him every time she gets scared or worried (which is often).

Mira is also selfish and ignorant, but as she’s 15 that is understandable and can be forgiven. It will be interesting to see if she grows out of it.

The last thing is the voices. While an interesting thing, it already feels like it’s going on for too long. A voice changing the personality of main characters gets old quick. I hope this gets resolved quick.

Great addition to the series

While it does have the usual repetitive stats areas it shows the growth of the characters, the ending has you wanting more and the characters growth has you wandering what will happen next!!!! Excited for the next one

Be careful what you wish for

Peter Berkrot writes another spellbinding book even as the hefty length of the novel would make most other novels of similar length grow tiresome. This episode, while continuing to level-up Dave, Emily and Mira, turned its attention onto Jackson and Sara, the two youngest in the family. Dave continued to be driven by his quest for power and strength to ensure the protection of his family, however, there seems to emerge a darker voice inside him that lures him in a direction new to him and worrisome to his wife, Emily. While the plot continues to unfold and the story advances at a steady pace, there are times when the stat dumps become almost overwhelming. This bit of frustration is mitigated, though, since the stats dialog goes out of its way to clarify in detail what the improvements to the characters are and gives more of a hint as to how the will be used in future battle encounters, of which there are many. The level of intrigue heightens as the consequences of the king's dalliances begin to spin out of control.

There's is lots to keep even an avid reader entertained and Peter Berkrot's performance makes that doubly so for a lucky listener.

Great!

This was a great continuing of the story. I can't wait for the next book. Just to see how much more can change for the Nelson's.
