About this listen
Dylan Mitchell wants to get married. However, after seven years of being engaged, that’s looking slightly doubtful. After going through ten wedding planners, they’re gaining a reputation somewhat akin to Henry the Eighth on the wedding circuit. Gabe has vetoed symbolic dove releases, forests of flowers, fire-eating performers, and puce as a wedding color. He’s confounded an army of wedding professionals, and now Dylan, the man who knows and loves him better than anyone, has joined the ranks of the confused. Can anything please his fiancé and get them to the altar?
From bestselling author Lily Morton comes the sequel to Rule Breaker. A romantic comedy novella full of family chaos, meddling friends, sexy bathroom encounters, and love. Always love.

His own marriage was a whirlwind affair that ended before the ink could dry on the wedding certificate. Nevertheless, even with his divorce pending, he’s getting by. Story
Is it really wrong to want to murder your boss? Dylan has worked for Gabe for two years. Two long years of sarcastic comments. Two long years of insults, and having to redo the coffee pot four times in the mornings to meet his exacting standards. Not surprisingly he has devoted a lot of time to increasingly inventive ways to murder Gabe. From stabbing him with a cake fork, to garrotting him with his expensive tie, Dylan has thought of everything. However, a chance encounter opens his eyes to the attraction that has always lain between them, concealed by the layers of antipathy.

John is an exceptionally good lawyer. He’s driven, arrogant, and hides a warm heart beneath a façade of cool politeness. He’s used to people disliking him, but for some reason, when meeting Matt in London, the other man’s open dislike bothers him. He’s therefore surprised to find himself offering Matt a place to stay in his villa in the South of France while he’s working nearby. Malachi Booth is a supermodel. He’s used to moving about the world, sleeping with whoever takes his fancy, and watching the money roll in. The last place he expects to find himself is on a run-down farm in Cornwall, but a bad bout of bronchitis means that he’s stuck there. The only compensation for this dismal state of affairs is that the farmer is very good looking, even if he’s the grumpiest person that Malachi has ever met.

When ghostwriter Maz Amani inherits a house from an uncle he’s never heard of, he offers heartfelt thanks to the universe, packs up his car, his cat, and his skepticism about mysterious uncles leaving all their worldly goods to unknown nephews, and high-tails it to a small town halfway to the Oregon coast. Anything would be better than week after week of couch surfing his way around Portland. Even if the alleged house is a rundown shack ridden with termites, spiders, and—shudder—rats, he’ll deal. Because hey, he owns a house!

Story
Magnus Carlsen is determined to grow old disgracefully. At 52, he doesn’t believe in keeping anything. Men, sofas, books—everything gets jettisoned, eventually. He’s divided his life into happy compartments. A successful trial lawyer, he spends his days lecturing jurors, exasperating judges, and striding arrogantly around courtrooms. He fills his nights with a parade of handsome young men who want to make him happy. Why date someone his own age to discuss back pain, retirement planning, and corns when he can date men who don’t care to discuss anything at all?

Weirdly, people don’t react overly well when you’re caught standing over the dead body of a murderer who’d walked free. It’s not that I thought my fellow homicide detective would rejoice when he saw what I’d done, but is a pat on the back too much to ask for? Maybe a gold star at the very least? The problem is that the person who caught me is Gabriel, the only person I care for and adore… and he’s prepared to look the other way if I leave homicide and promise to never kill again.

Wren Roberts thought he’d found his fairy tale when he met Mateo Rossi on holiday in Majorca. The wealthy and successful older man swept him off his feet, and before he knew it, he’d thrown caution to the wind and was living in Mateo’s waterside apartment in Venice. It’s a far cry from his harsh upbringing and crummy flat in London. But as the summer turns to autumn, cracks begin to show. Mateo’s family aren’t welcoming, and there doesn’t seem to be a place for Wren in Mateo’s world.

Story
Weirdly, people don’t react overly well when you’re caught standing over the dead body of a murderer who’d walked free. It’s not that I thought my fellow homicide detective would rejoice when he saw what I’d done, but is a pat on the back too much to ask for? Maybe a gold star at the very least? The problem is that the person who caught me is Gabriel, the only person I care for and adore… and he’s prepared to look the other way if I leave homicide and promise to never kill again.

Story
Oz Gallagher does not do relationships well. Bored and jobless after another disastrous hook up, he decides to leave London for a temporary job in the wilds of Cornwall. Surely managing a stately home on a country estate will be easier than navigating the detritus of his relationships at home. Six months there will alleviate a bit of his wanderlust and then he can come back to London as footloose and fancy free as the day he left it. However, when he gets there, he finds a house in danger of crumbling to the ground and a man who is completely unlike anyone he’s ever met.

Perfect visit with old friends!
Oh this was just glorious! I absolutely loved it when I read it and it was even better revisiting this with Joel Leslie's expert narration! He just brings Lily's characters to life! I loved every bit of it. What a grand time revisiting with Gabe, Dylan and all their friends again as they prepare for their wedding. It was so funny with that trademark wit and snark that Lily Morton just excels at writing. It was so sweet and romantic. Dylan is Gabe's person and their love is still so strong. We get to see all the men we've grown to love in the Mixed Messages series and it was fantastic. This is a true treat for fans of the series.

What a couple
Dylan and Gabe have taken the long way around to the wedding with innumerable false starts and wedding planners with much less hair left in their wake. It's a good thing these two are perfect for each other, because no one else could put up with them as a romantic partner, lol. Lots of old friends appear in this one as well. As always, Joel Leslie and Lily Morton are a perfect match. Joel always "gets" her complicated guys perfectly.

laughter and love
This book was like spending time and catching up with old friends. Gabe and Dillon's banter keeps you laughing while you can't help but feel the love. Lily Morton's love of her characters comes across in how well they have all stayed true to themselves while also allowing the characters to grow. Joel Leslie Froomkin has given each person their own voice. whether

Gabe & Dylan
I adored this! Joel Leslie’s wonderful narration takes us back where it all began with Lily’s men with Gabe and Dylan getting married (finally)! It was great fun revisiting these two, as well as the other guys we’ve come to know through the Mixed Messages series. I loved the snark and wit throughout. And the wedding planners! Such hilarity! The first impression of Joe was fantastic and had me laughing out loud. This was a true love story the fans of Gabe and Dylan and I finished reading with a smile on my face!

I Love This Universe
I absolutely love all of the stories in this connected universe and I love this follow up with Dylan & Gabe. I laughed out loud at several parts. I'll be going back to this one again. I adored reading this story but it was even more amazing listening to the wonderful Joel Leslie narrate it and bring it to life.
I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

A lovely novella.
This is the perfect finish to the series. So good to revisit Gabe & Dylan’s storyline. Cameos by the other two couples complete the circle. Expect to finish with misty eyes and a smile. Thanks Lily!

Witty and romantic, I loved it!
Once again, Joel Leslie has done a fantastic job performing Lily Morton's words. These characters wouldn't be the same from any other voice actor. Below is what I wrote when I read the book with my eyes.
This book is a sequel to Rule Breaker, the first book in the Mixed Messages series, and I really think you need to read that book first to enjoy this one this most. It’s a fantastic story and gives you the history behind Dylan’s and Gabe’s relationship.
Vow Maker is a fantastically witty, snarky and romantic story. Gabe and Dylan have been together for more than a few years now but they’ve yet to tie the knot. Part of the problem is finding a wedding planner that suits them. Each chapter has a little snippet of conversation between Dylan and Gabe about one of the wedding planners they had considered. I confess to being a tiny bit confused at first because chapter one ends with Gabe saying that he thinks they’ve finally found their new planner. After getting into chapter two I realized that the snippets were the author’s way of letting us know why other planners hadn’t worked out and I loved reading them.
The story is told in first person POV with chapters alternating between Dylan and Gabe. The dialogue is wonderful and exactly what I’d expect from Lily Morton. My review can’t convey how much I enjoyed reading this novella. I haven’t read a Lily Morton book yet that I didn’t love.

Wedding perfection
I absolutely adored this glimpse at Gabe and Dylan trying to plan their big day. I laughed out loud more than once but that is pretty normal for a Lily Morton story. These two don’t have the best of luck when it comes to planners. Truly worth a listen and Joel Leslie brings these characters to life like no other. This story also gives us our first glimpse of Joe the wedding planner who gets his own HEA later on. It may take Gabe and Dylan a bit of work but their wedding day is just the icing on the wedding cake for their forever after! ❤️🩷❤️🩷

Very Entertaining Story
I enjoyed this book a lot, Gabe and Dylan story was my favorite in this series and I loved visiting with them as they plan their perfect wedding event. This story has humor, romance, sexy times and meddling but well-meaning friends. Narrator did a great job telling this story, seems like author and narrator are very good team. Overall this was a very entertaining listening experience.
