Publisher's summary

A triumvirate of Veklocks, emissaries of the Tsargit, the alliance governing body, negotiates with Harbour, the Pyrean envoy, about critical projects the Pyreans need. But it's possible that the Veklocks ask for too much in return.

The Veklocks require the Pyreans to explore the extent of the Colony's usurpation of domes. The Colony is composed of two insectoid species, the grays and the reds. They're aggressive three- and five-meter long insectoids with venomous pincers that live for the expansion of their race. The Pyreans already lost one member of their team on their first exploration and are hesitant to meet the Colony again, unless they're better prepared.

Harbour and Jessie, her advisor, have an opportunity to demand a high price from the Tsargit through their negotiations with the Veklocks. But will it be worth the risk to their team to bring back the information the council demands?

Stunning!

Another stunning story as well as performance! I am going to take the advice given at the beginning, and begin the Silver Ships series because I want to be ready as soon as the next Pyreans novels hits the market. And thanks for the last sentence in Veklocks. It made my day!

Good story narration seems rushed

I must admit that I haven’t listened to any other works of Nicole Poole except the Pyreans series. The other books in the series were great but this one seemed robotic at many points in the story. Almost like editing used her narration from other story’s or it was generated from a computer. The story is solid and I can’t wait for the next story.

Very good series, hope there’s more in the wings

It’s a good series , well imagined, constructed, and presented. I hope that there is additional books between this series and the single book in the silver ships series that relates to the story.

Great books, narrator is much improved

I had previously insulted the narrator of these books, but I am enjoying her in this book and am looking forward to her future narrations.

much better then I thought

I listened to " empaths" on YouTube years ago. the story was so good I got audible and bought empaths , and the others in this series. Nicole Poole is just perfect ! her voice takes this from a great story read to you to a great movie playing in your minds eye. Not a lot of nairarators can do that. the story is amazingly good and well put together. the ONLY thing that bugs me going from book to book is the " recap" on phraises and people in every book. I do understand that it's kinda necessary if a new " reader" buys it but after the first book ....is it important? yes I guess. anyway great all around and again Nicole Poole was just amazing for this book. another book by this author isn't right for this series At all.

Interesting

The Verlocks meet with Harper. Unfortunately, this is the last book in the Pyreans Series. This was a short series. I felt it was just getting started and now it is over. Sometimes a series will go on and on and you wonder when it will end. This series had so many interesting characters and an intriguing story line. I was fully engaged in the story. Jucha is a great storyteller.

I read this as an audiobook downloaded from Audible. The book is twelve hours and six minutes. Nicole Poole does a great job narrating the story.

Worth a read/listen. Start at beginning of series

Overall great series, but the ending feels rushed and clunky. It is clearly meant to lead into another series, but even that doesn't cover the resulting rush to wrap up everything. It feels like extending the story out a bit longer or wrapping up some of the story in the other series would be more appropriate.

Simple story, engaging characters, weak narration

It's taken me the whole series to come up with the best way to describe the weak narration. It's like watching a cartoon. The narration lack of emotion--the changing cadences and inflection of real conversation, make you imagine someone standing out of sight and reading a script.

The characters are engaging tho. Listen to the first 13 of the Silver Ships series, then listen to the 4 Pyrean books, then go back to the Silver Ships so the two groups of people you've invested in can link up.
