About this listen
Former friends and former flames reunite on a mayhem-spike quest in this cozy romantasy perfect for fans of Legends & Lattes and lovers of Shrek.
“This delightful novel has the best The Princess Bride vibes.”—Jodi Picoult
TEN YEARS AGO, THEY SAVED THE REALM. IT RUINED THEIR LIVES.
Everyone in Mythria knows the story of how best friends Beatrice and Elowen, handsome ex-bandit Clare, and valiant leader Galwell the Great defended the realm from darkness. It’s a tale beloved by all—except the heroes. They haven’t spoken in a decade, devastated by what their quest cost them.
But when they all receive an invitation to the queen of Mythria’s wedding, it’s a summons they can’t refuse . . . and a reunion for the ages—with Clare secretly not over his long-ago fling with Beatrice, Beatrice fighting the guilt she feels over how everything ended, Elowen unprepared for the return of her ex-love (the cunning Vandra), and all of them lost without Galwell. And if reuniting with former friends and lovers wasn’t perilous enough, dark forces from their past have also returned.
Dusting off old weapons and old instincts, Beatrice, Clare, and Elowen will face undead nemeses, crystal caves, enchanted swords, coffee shops, games of magical Truth or Dare, and, hardest of all, their past—rife with wounds never healed and romances never forgotten.
This time around, will their story end in happily ever after?
“Witty, romantic, and addictively fun!”—Sarah Beth Durst, New York Times bestselling author of The Spellshop
“If you like stories full of voice, humor, and heart, look no further.”—Megan Bannen, USA Today bestselling author of The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy
“A terrific read for anyone who loves to get swept away by the magic of a fabulous fantasy novel.”—India Holton, USA Today bestselling author of The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels

Story
Lady Theodosia Balfour has certainly gotten the short end of the stick—her stepsister, the newly crowned Princess Beatrice, is telling everyone in polite society that Theo, her sister, and their mother are evil, wicked, and horrid people who treated her like a slave. Though Theo knows this isn't exactly true, it seems her life is thoroughly ruined by the rumor. With the Balfour family estate on the verge of bankruptcy, Theo's only path forward is a forced betrothal to the Duke of Snowbell, a foul-tempered geezer who wishes only to use her as a brood mare for spare heirs.

Story
Jane Pyre was once half of the famous rock ‘n’ roll duo, the Lightning Bottles. Years later, she’s perhaps the most hated—and least understood—woman in music. She was never as popular with fans as her bandmate (and soulmate), Elijah Hart—even if Jane was the one who wrote the songs that catapulted the Lightning Bottles to instant, dizzying fame, first in the Seattle grunge scene, then around the world. But ever since Elijah disappeared five years earlier and the band’s meteoric rise to fame came crashing down, the hatred of Jane has taken on new levels, and all she wants to do is retreat.

Story
Murder is not her department. It’s not like it used to be. Modern-day grim reapers wear business casual, not black cloaks, and they don’t carry scythes, they work for S. C. Y. T. H. E. (Secure Collection, Yielding, and Transportation of Human Essences), where the Department of Natural Causes is the least exciting gig. And that’s how Kathy Valence likes it: boring and predictable. She has enough stress in her personal life; she’s mid-divorce, pregnant, and terrified she doesn’t have what it takes to be a good mom. Then, she goes to pick up a new client and finds his soul is missing.

In Daretana’s greatest mansion, a high imperial officer lies dead—killed, to all appearances, when a tree erupted from his body. Even here at the Empire’s borders, where contagions abound and the blood of the leviathans works strange magical changes, it’s a death both terrifying and impossible. Assigned to investigate is Ana Dolabra, a detective whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities. Rumor has it that she wears a blindfold at all times, and that she can solve impossible cases without even stepping outside the walls of her home.

Story
In the year 2475, the remnants of humanity have taken to the skies, inhabiting massive domed cities that hover five miles over the ruined ecological disaster of old Earth. The Powers That Be, in their infinite wisdom, decided that the few million people left deserved to live their best lives, so they gave each sub-orbital platform its own theme and legally enforced tech level.

Story
Meet Laszlo, eight-hundred-year-old demon and Hell’s least productive Curse Keeper. From his office beneath Midtown, he oversees the Drakeford Curse, which involves a pathetic family upstate and a mysterious black monolith. It’s a sexy enough assignment—colonial origins, mutating victims, et cetera—but Laszlo has no interest in maximizing the curse’s potential; he’d rather sunbathe in Ibiza, quaff martinis, and hustle the hustlers on Manhattan’s subway.

Relics of a mysterious god, the Spice Gates connect the eight far-flung kingdoms, each separated by a distinct spice and only accessible by those born with a special mark. This is not a caste of distinction, though, but one of subjugation: Spice Carriers suffer the lashes of their masters, the weight of the spices they bear on their backs, and the jolting pain of the Gates themselves.

A Whimsical Quest for Friendship and Magic
E.B. Asher's This Will Be Fun is a delightful blend of fantasy and friendship. This cozy quest follows a group of diverse friends as they embark on a magical adventure, as well as come to terms with their individual trauma from their first quest.
The characters are endearing and relatable, each with their own unique quirks, strengths, and struggles. The world-building, while not overly complex, is imaginative and charming.
While the plot may not be groundbreaking, the book's true strength lies in its ability to evoke feelings for the reader as the characters overcome their pasts and work through their relationships.

Slapstick fantasy with emotional resonance
I really liked this fantasy, it was hard at first to believe this wasn’t an actual sequel, because the story is told as a sequel to an epic adventure that crushed our heroes and left them reeling for ten years. Picking up at that ten year mark, we meet our rag tag hero crew and learn about all their stories and regrets. I enjoyed the cinematic humor, like when Clare did something embarrassing and the thieves are described as being actively embarrassed for him.

Accent inconsistency
I loved this book but the performance was not great. The accents of the characters were inconsistent and made this a hard listen. I hate when readers try too hard to do an accent they are clearly not meant to do. One of the main characters slipped in and out of a Slavic accent and a French accent and the handsome rogue character occasionally had a country accent? It was messy. The only reader I enjoyed was the voice of Beatrice's chapters.

Atrocious voice acting
The voice actors' accents are inconsistent and distracting, often sounding unnatural or completely different from their usual narrating voices. To make things worse, the same side characters have different accents between chapters, which made listening very confusing and frustrating. The narration really needs to be re-recorded!

Teen Angst
35 year olds never growing up would be my best assessment. Apparently being former hero’s has nothing to do with un resolved issues. And one of the couples was same sex- not mentioned anywhere in the reviews I read. Waste of time- got worse & worse. I gave up 2 hours in. 2 hours of my life I will never get back.
