Publisher's summary

Mike Pazzo was my husband.

He was also a narcissist.

Every conversation with Mike was a fight. I couldn’t hold my own, much less win those fights. Why did every conversation have to be won or lost? Damn, it was exhausting. He beat me down with his barrage of caustic words and his superior argumentative techniques. And he loved it.

Sometimes I’d fall at his feet, prostrate in absolute abject defeat just to get him to stop yelling at me. I’d sit back on my heels and bow to him, which he loathed. I’m not sure whether he was disgusted or infuriated. I’m not even sure whether I was being sarcastic or authentic in my show of submission.

In those moments, he would ball up his fists in silent fury - and walk away. That is when I began to wonder when he would hit me.

When - not if. It was only a matter of time before his abuse became physical. He was a violent man on the inside.

In that moment, I knew there was no turning back. I was the trapped fox that gnaws off its own foot to escape. Freedom at all costs. Even if you leave part of yourself behind.

A quick and interesting read (listen)!

I was very fortunate to stumble across this book! It captures you from the moment it begins. It is written from the heart and tells a story worth listening to. You can clearly put yourself in the primary character's shoes and the rhythm of the writing (and oration) mirrors the excitement, angst, and anger you will feel as the novel proceeds. At various points you will find yourself wanting to scream at the primary character, or at the very least, talk her out of a bad decision. At others, you will want to hug her for making a decision that turned out sadly (but you would have made yourself). And.... there will be many many times you will find yourself just wanting to sit with her on a veranda in New Orleans with a bottle or two of wine and discuss her experiences and listen to her stories... (just don't ask her to make you a certain martini....).

This book is quick moving and really keeps your interest. I highly recommend it for a flight or a train ride!

Highly Recommended!!

This is such a beautiful book! Thoughtful, deep, sweet, redemptive, and empowering. It's an indispensable, educational journey into the dynamics (and red red flags) of a relationship with a narcissist. You definitely want to read this one, you won't regret it : - )
