About this listen

Agatha Christie's debut novel was the first to feature Hercule Poirot, her famously eccentric Belgian detective.

A refugee of the Great War, Poirot is settling in England near Styles Court, the country estate of his wealthy benefactress, the elderly Emily Inglethorp. When Emily is poisoned and the authorities are baffled, Poirot puts his prodigious sleuthing skills to work. Suspects are plentiful, including the victim’s much younger husband, her resentful stepsons, her longtime hired companion, a young family friend working as a nurse, and a London specialist on poisons who just happens to be visiting the nearby village.

All of them have secrets they are desperate to keep, but none can outwit Poirot as he navigates the ingenious red herrings and plot twists that earned Agatha Christie her well-deserved reputation as the queen of mystery.

So many twists and turns!

I listened very closely to this book, trying to follow all the clues. But in the end, I was surprised at the conclusion, which, in typical Agatha Christie fashion, was not what I expected. Richard Armitage narrated the different voices very well, and he did particularly well with Hercule Poirot's French accent.

Christie is great, but Armitage’s performance is GRE

While not my favorite of Christie’s novels, Poirot is still exceptional, though the narrator Hastings and his amateur sleuthing leave much to be desired. However, Richard Armitage’s performance is EXCELLENT. His voice acting helps to clearly distinguish the different characters and his Poirot rendition is excellent. It is distinctly different from other portrayals yet familiar enough to fit right in. Overall, an excellent performance!

very interesting story

I have always enjoyed Agatha Christie books. To listen to them is really quite a treat. I love English accents so that made it even better. This was very convoluted so I really had to pay attention. I think any one over the age of 17 would understand and enjoy this book. Or someone under the age of 100!!!

I want more books narrated by Richard Armitage!

This story is, of course, entertaining and very well-written, but it would be hard to enjoy it with an untalented narrator. Richard Armitage is excellent! This is the second book I have enjoyed with his narration, and I will look for more!

Charming! loved it!

the narrator was wonderful, and y was drawn into the investigation to get along with Hastings and Hercule, as befuddled as Hastings and astonished at Pierot at his little things!

Great Listen

You are taken through a journey in which a Belgian man who sounds French constantly makes points and discovery that no one else does. The main character is never correct and is an idiot in comparison to the Belgian.

Great Listen!

I thought I had things figured out but there were some great twists and turns that made you question your thought process. Nicely, and thoroughly, explained...it held my attention the entire time.

I love it!

I love no matter if I read all of Christie’s novels, I’m always left guessing at who the killer is. I guess I don’t have enough little grey cells.
