Still fascinating

Great narration as usual from Hugh Fraser.
Story was surprisingly good - I was not expecting the usual Christie flair from a novelization but they really came through here

Terrific storytelling

Completely believable -- the characters, the dialog, the convoluted twists of the story, all outstanding. I've read some of AC's later works recently and found the moralizing and philosphizing a bit tiresome. This was just straightforward storytelling and it was great!

A fun one

I saw this years ago as a BBC production and loved it but couldn’t recall the name. So glad I found it! A breezier Agatha Christie with some great laughs. Hugh Fraser will forever be my favorite reader of her works.

Interesting

This is the first time that I have read a play. The way the story is put together and written makes it an easy read. All the terrific elements are there. A one room set, multiple characters moving in and out. Tight story lines. All the classic Christie elements of a house party setting are there too. The clues were there….. but I failed to discover the culprit!!! Lol.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As always Hugh Fraser does not disappoint in his narration. He is so clever with recognizably different voices for each character!! Such talent

Wonderfully adapted from the play!

As all Agatha Christie, the story itself was wonderful fun with fantastic characters. An adaptation of a play is not always successful, but this certainly was. Hugh Fraser was his usual joy to listen to. In all ways, a totally enjoyable listening experience.

When first we practice to deceive.

The humor and twists are a delightful distraction in this tale of an evening full of surprises.

Agatha is always fun!

So this Agatha Christie book is based on a play she wrote. It has all the standard ingredients--country house, wealthy people and their servants and a perplexing murder to be solved. What is missing--is any of the usual detectives we expect (Poirot, Miss Marple, Tommy & Tuppence, etc).

However, this is still a very good book. The detectives she employs in this play/book (a local man and his constable) have much the flavor of the more well-known characters she created, so nothing at all suffered from that. What possibly did (in a very tiny way) was that this has been written in a style that suggests some things I do not believe Agatha would have said (she didn't say "sucks" nor hint at sexual things--one small reference that seemed uncharacteristic of her). The story did not suffer at all because of those things. In fact, since all of it takes place in one room--it was easy to visualize it being acted on stage--something I rather enjoyed.

Here is what is really great about this book: Hugh Fraser, who always reads her books very well, is exceptionally good with the voices and the reading of this one. I have heard several by him that I thought were just "so-so," but he outdid himself narrating this one! If you love Christie, this is a very good listen.

definetly a good story but

more so than any other ive listened to, this story seemed to be a mishmash of other Agatha's tales.

Great listen

First, Hugh Fraser is a great narrator. Second, this story is fast paced, enjoyable, and has humor. Agatha Christie is a the master of short mysteries. I couldn’t take my headphones off.
